Yeah, I believe it's primarily a US thing. Just happens that a lot (though of course not all) of the English-speaking people around here are from the US, so it's not a matter of oversensitivity as much as it is cultural difference.

Steps of Faith is the easiest trial ever made. The first time I've made this dungeon Vishard bugged and he couldn't advance, but we could attack. We just killed him with force brute. It was disappointing, to say the least.

You're right, it is a good idea to put energy into learning the language if you find yourself needing to communicate with people speaking it on a regular basis (though Google Translate isn't all that great for English to Japanese translations in my experience. D: ) I'm on an NA server, but I did try and pick up a few words and phrases here and there back when I played XI and would continue to study and learn more if there were still enough JP players around me to necessitate even simple communication with them. "I'm new to this" or "I'm sorry", etc. It would still take a bit more than a base knowledge of their alphabet and a small vocabulary of words and short phrases to be able to read, understand and communicate boss fight strategies in Japanese though.
The point that I was trying to make to that person however, was that the assumption that it is in any way "not difficult" to learn and know multiple languages or that the number of languages you may know or how well you know them is in any way based on your level of intelligence is rude, closed-minded and unrealistic.
