    Steps of Faith impossible on Jap servers

    Any other non jap speaking folks finding it impossible to do the new trial?
    Something that requires coordination is impossible to do when you dont understand 7 others in a coordination heavy fight - as the tank and purposefully get disrespected and go without heals/acknowledgement the entire fight. 3/4 times now ive been tanking adds under the boss and just left to die with healers standing next to me then the other tank picks up the adds and gets healed. Its pathetic. I can understand this if i had joined a jap duty, but i dont have it checked, i solely have english checked - which means they have the nerve to check english and shut out any/all english persons in the duty...
    Im getting off topic in a rant not but you get the point - anyone else having difficulty because of the language barrier (that shouldnt be there in the first place)

    Guess it goes with playing on a Japanese server... It's not right by any mean but looks like that's how they want to play it.

    Why would you play on a JP server if that was going to be a problem? o_O That said, EU players have the exact same issues with French folk sometimes so hey.

    Im an oceanic player, so its either a japanese server at 150ms or a US server at 400ms, which is almost unplayable as a tank. Until we get oceanic servers my hands are tied. I can understand on a jap server, but they shouldnt be checking the english box if they dont even go to the effort of using google translate or the auto translate function and in fact go as far as to shut that person out. There is bugger all english speaking people on the server (im in a guild of 2 other frequent players, both of which dont really do end game content - and havent come across a single english speaker in /sh or party recruit etc) so its not like i can "just form a premade party". Its a shame such a big game (what 5million now?) has 0 support for oceanic players =(

    I can understand playing on the JP server because of lag issues but if you don't know the language it's difficult. If you don't know what you are doing and they can't communicate with you then they throw their hands up like anyone would. Korean MMO's are the same if you play on native servers and don't know any of the language. I think you should try learning some simple phrases to help you out with communication and if it looks like you are making an effort they'll appreciate it more. Endgame fights often require coordination until you can faceroll it so when they see somebody isn't a team player it bothers them.

    In all languages and cultures there are many different kinds of players though sometimes you meet people who are not as accommodating as others. It always seems to me like English native speakers expect everyone else to speak English be it on a foreign server or their own. When a non English speaker joins an English speaking group do you think they are always nice to them?

    if you already know the strategy you can just do your job, so read strategy guides before , know some japanese basics would help, if you want to learn some.
    we have the problem with the EU server too, french, deutch in english groups.
    sometimes frenchs and deutchs don't know any english word.
    Also people like to play casualy without read any strat on DF, it's the only thing that make some content hard to do in DF, it's the same on US and EU DF

    The point is, im selecting an english only group, which means they are selecting english as well as japanese and then shutting english players out.
    learning basic phrases wont help either when things are said on the fly and lengthy strats are given out. I know the basics of the fight, but as soon as i speak a word of english they immediately shut me out. Its rude and uncalled for, and actually affecting my gameplay to the point where i cant advance unless i get horribly lucky in the DF with english speaking people (so far 7 runs not 1)

    Don't speak at all, then. Just do what you've been doing; pull the mobs under the boss. If they don't know you're non-JP, they've no reason to purposefully shut you out.... not saying that they have a "reason" even if they do know. Honestly, what you described in the OP - you doing your intended job - them intentionally letting you die for no reason - constitutes harassment and I'd report them for it.

    Just use some simple Japanese phrases most people on a run don't say more than "hi" anyway. If you know what to do then they probably won't even notice.

    Light,

    Sorry to hear about your plight. It sounds more like racism more than anything. I play on a JP server and have thankfully not run into the extreme prejudice you experienced, but I've seen bad stuff come up here or there. I'd consider these options:

    1. Aren't there any FC / LS / Friends that you can ask to help?

    2. Consider a Server Transfer. It seems Tonberry Server is the top English-speaking Oceanic / SEA JP Server out there. They have a very high English-speaking population that coexists with the JP population there.

    3. Even using a few basic JP phrases (and add them to a User Macro for reference) would ease things up. You can do a search for some great JP Phrases Threads people made over the years (for FF XI and XIV here). But a few things like:

    * At the start of each battle / dungeon you enter, use:

    よろしくお願いします

    * Use the Auto-Translator instead of just typing in straight English. It's not perfect, but at least you get some communication in. Stuff like:

    {Cure}{Please}

    or if you need people to {Gather together.}

    or {Help me out.}

    Good luck.
