Exactly this. With more DPS slots in the roster, someone will think "Oh hey, maybe now I can go play my DPS class finally". But then you got thousands of other players thinking the same thing, thus the status quo remains.I shall attempt to challenge you with something I learned recently: Induced demand
I think that increasing the amount of DPS that can queue will increase the amount of DPS that will queue, because there are people who find queueing as tank/healer more convenient even though they want to play DPS. Some will switch when it becomes more convenient to queue as DPS.
And so, nothing changes as the proportion of DPS stays the same.

Well, they also opened up WoD which means people are in there scrabbling for filler gear for their off classes. Add to that the usual newbies that are in there for gear upgrades and you have a lot of DPS queueing. I know I've queued for WoD several times in the past 2 days, but it was as black mage and monk. I'm a career tank, but my tank and healer already have ironworks/dreadwyrm and if I don't queue on DPS I won't get any gear for it.

It were brought up in the past, about the possibility to queue as multiple roles. It mustn't be difficult to implement, just let people able to open up to three different queues, with the limit that you cannot queue with same role more than once, and the matchmaking algorithm stays untouched. First queue that pops up, clears all other ones.

I think 4 DPS out of 6 would be much better. Like others have said, 3 out of 5 doesnt really speed it up much in other games. Then again, LFR in WoW has about the same ratio 3.4/5 and from what I hear, DPS get in much quicker while tanks are the ones left waiting. Of course there, tank participation only goes up by 1 while the rest get about 6 times the amount of a regular group. I honestly dont think its possible to fix the whole "waiting on tank to queue up" with small groups. You'd probably need about 10 DPS for every tank to get decent wait times and that already a small raid.
I dont think that really fits here. Queue times for DPS can be both good or bad. I for one like being able to do other things while im queued and sometimes even get annoyed that I cant really do that with a tank. Besides, if we were to apply that same logic to this game, there'd be way more tanks queuing up and we wouldnt have this problem. I mean developers have tried making it as convenient as possible to queue as tank yet it hardly makes a difference. Tanks and healers are the 5 lane super highway in this case yet the road is still empty. People just play the class they like to play IMO and will make any sacrifice they need to avoid the one they dont.

When I want to watch netflix, I cue as drg. When I'm on a time crunch I cue war because I can't half ass it as a tank, but insta cue.
that's why people don't play tanks and heals. If dps mess up it doesn't matter in easy junk content. There is no dungeon or CT that challenges dps in any way. When you are 10 to 40 ilvls over the design of the instance, dps doesn't matter. You will make any checks regardless if you know your rotation, or even pay attention.
Tanks and heals don't get that luxury. If they half ass people die, wipe, or group demands bigger pulls.
As long as dps have less responsability, people will gravitate to them. It's not until you get to endgame raiding that people really start to examine dps performance. Now they have the power to wipe the raid with mechanics AND there are tough dps checks that have consequences to fail. Outside of top tier raids being a dps is ez street because you have no real responsibility to fail.
Yeah, but this doesn't really have anything to do with party composition, this is because now we can get unlimited tomestones/twines/coats from farming coil.
On our server a FCoB LS was made on patch day that already has like 50 of us in there. I haven't done any content except FCoB turns and the MSQ since Tuesday, already have 2 tomestones 4 coats 3 twines and countless pieces of gear and capped Poetics yesterday just from Coil (save for the 7 Poe I got from the new trial)
I imagine this is happening throughout all the servers, so the WoD questline doesn't offer much incentive for people who can raid any longer....
Depends what duty you going to. I've been doing ct st wod as a dps and it joins in like 5 mins tops.
The other point is that the more extra DD's you add on to a small man dungeon, the less each of them individually matter. You've got one healer: if he screws up, everyone dies. You've got one tank: if he screws up, most likely everyone dies (unless you can go kite just fine). You've got one DD: if he screws up... you just kill it a bit slower? (obviously the exception being bosses where you have a DPS check). I just feel like for every DD you add to your small group, the less each individually matters (unlike having an OT which makes adds significantly easier and you have a backup plan, similarly with a 2nd healer if one healer dies the other can raise him, also you have benefits from the SCH shields WHM strong heals, one doing the healing while the other damage deals, etc.).
The more DD's (or DPS's I guess if you came from a non FF MMO), you just in the end get more damage. Maybe more utility from silences and such.
I've mentioned this before but I gave up on the main story quests after some DF issues because I am your basic newbie gamer who was drawn by the appeal of being a healer, not realising what I had to deal with, so I switched classes.
That said, I can understand why this happens, as a healer I almost never wait in a DF queue and if you have to wait to end up with a team that's not doing well it's easy to get annoyed.
I think the problem is that everything is role dependent and because of this you can easily lose the sense of fun, and if you aren't doing your job well enough you get the boot.
Anyway back to what I was saying at this point I've sorta given up on the DF. I'll just wait till i establish some friends on here who would play along with me/form a party to do the dungeons rather than do the DF - it's less daunting lol.

Not sure if this was linked, but you are about 4 months late.
