If the damage done to nanamo is severe enough, esuna and cure will not work. Hench Type ) opening scene
There's a difference that I feel should be acknowledged. Animation quality aside, there was no political ramification or blindsiding plots when it came to facing down Gaias. That wasn't the point I was trying to make, it was regarding the OP's *other* point about how the Scions just stood around and did nothing. The whole 2.0 era ending is pretty weak in comparison.
I agree that 1.0's CS (the one linked) didn't wrap up everything at all, but I was posting that portion to show that at least they are portrayed as putting a fight. Yda, Papalymo, Yshtola, Thancred all being active and fighting back. Not just standing around shocked and letting themselves be "held up" by some average Foot Soldiers.
That said, would have loved to have seen the Scions in action more than what was done so far.
Also regarding the poison scene, I'm just gonna note that
no one has seen nor been shown the Sultana's corpse, nobody in the room checked for a pulse, and no poison both in-universe and in real life exist that cause you to instantly enter a darth vader chokehold and fall over dead within the same literal second of consumption; at least not one that could be used covertly
I'm calling playacting on this one, which dramatically changes the context of the scene and what the character could have done
also, the fact that the main character did not fight back when arrested and 'peacefully' escaped is very likely the only reason why any of the random joe NPC's talking about covering up their presence and keeping quiet about them is happening.

The number of people in on the charade pushes the suspension of disbelief. There are still people after us for them and us to keep quiet for, right? Also regarding the poison scene, I'm just gonna note that

To die? There's very strong evidence that they're just in jail.
So, yeah, if it was the only solution, Superman would probably let his friends be captured... before making a plan and rescue them all after that. Which is likely what will happen during 3.x.
I also felt like i was watching an episode of GoT. I didn't want to make that comparison because i'm sure the die-hard fans would have ripped me in half for it.
Well, only about three of them have to be in on the whole thing. Everyone else can just as easily be fooled or manipulated.
The same thing goes for the people covering our asses, too - it's a minority of powerful officials making executive decisions, by and large.
It's also been shown when first met as an Ul'dahn character that the Sultana is very good at slumming it in disguise when she needs to.

Nothing beats the epic 1.0 ending.
ARR is 'just' a prologue to Heavensward.
And i missed my name in the credits roll.
