    Level Cap Increase

    Has there been any word on what (if anything) will be required to level past 50?

    It looks like all >50 content will be in expansion zones, and expansion zones will require finishing the MSQ. So, does anyone else suspect that there will be a quest in Ishgard to raise the cap to 55/60?

    It's unlikely that there would be some kind of limit break quest as that's a very FFXI thing to do and this is not FFXI.

    Far more likely is that people with the expansion correctly registered will simply be able to continue gaining exp beyond level 50. While yes, the expansion content appears to all be locked behind the 2.55 main story quests, I doubt that not having completed those will prevent you from gaining exp.

    I don't think the lvl cap increase will be restricted to the expansion, and yes I do think there will be a quest but the question is will it be a quest like XI where you there is a quest to increase lvl cap every 5 or 10lvl.

    For 50-55 (genkai 1) you will need to get a Bomb Coal, Exoray Mold, and an Ancient Papyrus, then give them to Maat @ Ru'Lude Gardens.

    Then to go from 55-60 (genkai 2), Maat will ask you to retrieve Round Frigicite, Square Frigicite, and Triangular Frigicite.

    And no, there won't be a new 'Ru Lude Gardens' zone in Ishgard. You'll be fully expected to link your current character to your FFXI character to get 'Ultra Veteran Rewards'

    At which point Maat's Eorzean alterego will be 100% visible to you and remember if you actually completed these quests in Vana'diel (you have been playing 11 still, right? Hasn't everyone?)

    My main thought on the issue comes after working to finish the MSQ on my alts after hearing access to the bulk of the expansion would be gated behind it. It's not so bad in piecemeal over a year, but trying to cram the whole thing out at once is brutal, even with skipping cutscenes. If DoL/DoH cap increase is also stuck behind the MSQ, I imagine there will be a lot of angry crafters.

    In terms of backend systems, having eh expansion probably unlocks your character's ability to level past 50, regardless of where you are. The gating by main story quest only applies to actually entering the new zones. Just like how we can't enter dungeons unless we have done the relevant quest to unlock them.

    It would be nice if there was more depth to the quests and your character like going adventuring for tough to find or reach items to increase your level. One of the reasons people liked XI so much is because it felt like a real journey, like an actual adventure. You weren't like "I'll just teleport to that zone and walk 45 seconds and *boop* done".

    A lot more angry RMT especially if the "gated" areas provide new resources for crafting or means of gaining higher quantity of shards/crystals/clusters compared to the 1.0 areas.
