8 man "raids" = final content?

I don't think it would be that hard, people can mange 25 man LFRs in WoW and that's one extra DPS player over what we have in FFXIV, I think it is doable even in Duty Finder even Coil is perfectly doable in DF, It's just getting players to cooperate and communicate. Remember day one of World of Darkness? That was pure hell but once players figured out how the mechanics worked now it's really easy to clear because everyone aside from new players know what to do. All raids are like puzzles, you have all the pieces you need all you need to do is put them together.

Usually, human beings form tribal allegiances based on things that are at least mostly real. Religion, if nothing else, provides a mechanism for social cohesion and the pooling of resources. Likewise, the nation state despite being a fictive has a real impact on the world. Defining one's identity on these things is, if not ideal, at least understandable.

What a world we live in now that sad, hollow people attempt to derive meaning and identity from, of all things, herding 39 other cats to slay virtual dragons.

Basically, he left the game because the 'best' is not available in content where he can hide how generally bad he is behind the talent of other players and then force them to give up their hard earned loot. The weekly lockout probably would've done it if the fact that the best of the best is only available to those who can output enough in 8 man raiding content. Which he obviously cannot, so instead he staged a hacking attempt at Cape Westwind of all places and used that as his excuse to exit stage left.

It would be best if we merely let this entire thing fade into obscurity and laugh about it when people bring it up instead of giving this guy the satisfaction of leaving any kind of lasting impression.

8 man raids are more difficult than 24 man raids, people who think otherwise have not done a significant amount of both. The reason why is because in 24 man raids, your mistakes can be made up by other players or it may not affect the raid as much as you're only 1/24 of the group. The reason why they can't make a 24 man raid as strict (as in 1 small mistake by 1 person wiping the raid) is because it would be very difficult for the developers to design and even more difficult for the players to manage. I do agree that a true end-game 24 man raid can bring a new environment into the game and thereby can make things more fun.

I cleared steps pre-nerf. It wasn't that hard honestly with some coordination and will power. the big thing even post nerf people need to quit doing is assigning jobs based on class. I finally told the tank in one run "Dude the Bard is in my LS and trying to get a clear for 3.0, stop being a jack ass and just let me use the dragon killer since I got it's timing perfect the last 8 times I fired it!". when the others agreed he rage quite like a baby. Next take comes in about 5 seconds after and I go "Mind if I get DK?" and his response is "If you got the timing down go for it."

We cleared it before Visharp even got to the end of the bridge that way. I don't know who the other 3 gave comes too, (I got two my self) but my com went straight to the new tank that played to strengths not perceived rolls.

Well when you're talking about a group of random people you don't know, their class is pretty much the single thing you can be totally sure of.

In your case you knew something he didn't, namely that you would be a better choice for the DK position than your bard friend. Him rage-quitting over that was silly, but from his perspective the assignment as he knew it was correct.

That's where communication comes in. After the third wipe because of poor timing on waaaay more than just DK, he should have made an attempt to find the problem. Tanks are usually the unofficial team leaders because of their forward position in battle so it's extremely poor leadership not to communicate. And while admittedly I was kind of childish about it my self it was proof of his lack of qualification for the tank role that he refused to listen to his team even after several attempts ended in failure.
