I have a P9 R300 (20 star) chocobo raised prior to the 2.55 patch (Head Start / Dash III combo). Some thoughts for those interested in what it's like at the end:

Before 2.55 the win rate on my track of choice (Sagoli) was about 80%. You would never lose unless hit by meteor (and sometimes still win if hit by 1), but the frequency of multiple meteors was so high that you would lose fairly often. The 2.55 changes have definitely helped out in that you don't see multiple meteors that often anymore. Frenzy is definitely scary now, but I actually still just hold the forward button until out of stamina and have a win rate of at least 90% comfortably on Costa del Sol.

The key is getting out ahead of the pack and dictating chests to try to avoid being hit by frenzy / gravity. Being pushed around in the pack getting spammed by waters and gravity balls is not fun. For this reason, Head Start is still incredibly useful. Dash III is also still very good because you end up in so many situations at the end of races where everyone is out of stamina. In these scenarios, Dash III is great since it gives you 3 seconds at max speed and lets you cover some extra distance as you decelerate back to lamed speed.

For anyone interested, here's a random video of me farming R-300 Costa del Sol (7 wins and 1 loss). Farming MGP it's about 7,500 to 8,000 MGP an hour going at a pretty leisurely pace. Head Start / Dash combo definitely still works at the highest level, but I'm sure there are more ability combinations that will allow you to be successful now though.

To be fair Kaeko, your Chocobo is a 20/20 racebird. Well at least we know that even if you have a perfect Choco your chances of winning in R300 are extremely high, just not 100%.

I'm at P9 too but my stats are far from perfect. Will have to breed lots more!

Are your stats all maxed out too?

I have a R300 perfect chocobo too, and yeah it's easier to win R300 now with the nerf of meteor drop rate. So I really don't know anything about lower race. But... Maybe I m a little greedy but... 403 MGP is still too low. If you consider the fact you need 30 sec to queue, plus the time to enter (and damn, see 3000 times the begging of the entering cutscene/cut it is ANNOYING as hell), plus 80-90 sec race time with max speed, plus time to WAIT than others finish... It takes easily 2min40 and you need to win. In 3min you can easily win 4 times against the imperial with 100% win rate if you have 60 cards. It's 360 MGP. If you calculate, Chocobo race is now more effective than Imperial trash farm... By less than 10% if you don't count card drop. After all the MGP/time I used to raise this chocobo... It will NEVER be more effective than Imperial farm... And that's really a shame in my eyes, even if I find chocobo races very entertaining.

I can only compare directly R140 races and I did a few R160 before I retired that bird and I'm positively surprised about these changes. It had only one star in acceleration so it took its sweet time to get started and any rainy phases would be a disaster so I had problems to score in the top. After the patch I could far more easily catch up and score first or second more consistently. I also had Choco Ease and Choco Calm on that bird, so heavy and frenzy were not much of a threat and only meant I could finish many races with plenty of stamina to spare.
So personally I'm happy with the changes, many abilities were boosted and a sprint build is not the only option anymore (and has more risk to it now).

My biggest issue is the NPC's seem to gun only for your choco and nothing else 80% of the time. I have seen NPC's not use any items even though they are packed with other NPC's but as soon as I go in to pass or get close, every item starts getting used, kind of unfair when the hold race is gunning for you. Also Frenzy is way to dang powerful now, until I can get something to resist it its just insane how much it cripples your stamina.

Yeah I've seen that after r-80, NPC save their items to use it on you even when they are packed with other NPCs to briar them, or have NPCs ahead to frenzy/grabiball

Agreed. 403 is nice. But they should have factored all the time, mgp, and gil it takes to make a G9 that can handle R-300 successfully. Jubs was hoping for a flat 500... over a reasonable amount of time, the effort would have paid off over the much, much easier Imperial-spam.

What bugs me a little, is that by the time i have my 20 star chocobo, there might be more players with perfect R-300 chocobos that are farming MGP all day. With 2-3 other players it will be much harder to win and your average points will drop... Maybe its better to get a perfect R-240 (or whatever the previous racing class is) chocobo, where you will most likely have no competition XD But then again, i might as well play cards for MGP.

Yeah. Don't chocobo race for MGP. That would be a ridiculous waste of time.

Or maybe just some other prices, like in FF7. Beside the achievements, you don't get much for all the work to get a Pedigree 9 Chocobo.
