He wasn't killed during the DRG 50 quest your journal says that he simply disappeared. I'm more confused because he should be locked up in a gaol as he stole The Eye. Also, Alberic's dialogue wasn't updated to say that he came back to Ishgard it still says "There are no dragoons in Ishgard"(paraphrased) so either he doesn't know he's back or they simply forgot.
It would actually work (theortically) into the story of the dragoon class if he never mentioned encoutering you and that your "dragoon story quest" (yes even if you took it as your first) happens AFTER this whole deal with isgard and somehow work in into the current story of the eye being stolen by him. BUT..... since he mentioned that about you that means he already stole it and they are acting like it never happned or that he didnt try to use more of the dragons powers losing him mind....
Dammit, at least im not the only one to notice this.
Omg I just saw this in the story and now am pissed. How could they let this fall threw the cracks of the story. He stole the freaking eye and they were aware of it in the dragoon story but yet here he is.
Additionally, I think this more or less confirms that pre-50 Job quests all happen before the Praetorium, whether or not you've done them. Nice to see you again for the first time, Estinien. Apparently we've met before.
This is what I recall too. Alberic even stressed that he wanted all of this to be kept quiet to avoid an uproar. If I recall, the entire Dragoon quest chain was done covertly, only the player and Alberic knew what he did, and the latter took pains to ensure that no one else knew about Estinien going rogue. Even among those that knew, he's still the Azure Dragoon of Ishgard, unless they can find a acceptable replacement, they'll take him.
There's another confirmation of this within the game too:
The Level 50 CUL quest absolutely confirms that the job/class quests take place before the events of 2.1 (if nothing else) as Nanamo is alive during that quest - you're cooking for her. It also shows that Lolorito was up to his machinations well before 2.3's storyline with him and Teleji Adaleji.
The main things I'm finding myself thinking about after that rollercoaster:
Urianger. It was a shocker, but a lot of people are jumping to the conclusion that he's been working against us, but it doesn't add up. Remember that the Ascians are responsible for the death of the person he loved. Elidibus is rather different from the other Ascians though...I can't imagine what he's doing there though, but I still have faith that Uri's on our side.
Also:
Hydaelyn? A blue light flashes and Minfilia says she was spoken to before she abandoned us. She also says "no..." right afterwards though which is extremely ambiguous. Don't really know what else to say, just eager to bring the topic to light. Is Hydae recovering? Naturally we wouldn't know since being severed. Was she watching over the scions?
Ditto. Elidibus even calls him Archon. The impression I got is that, however Elidibus and Lahabrea's plans (especially the latter's) differ from the overall "Project Ascian," it's about to become meaningful enough that involving an outside is going to count for a lot. In the past, Elidibus has made it clear that he doesn't think he's our enemy, and that his endgame is different than the others'.

Okay guys, let's do a good old fashioned body count:
Dead, confirmed:
Nanamo Ul Namo (last of her name)
Teleji Adaleji
Missing:
Minfilia
Yda
Papalymo
Y'shtola
Thancred
F'lhaminn
Hoary Boulder
Coultenet
Ilberd
Riol
Higiri
Various treacherous Crystal Braves
Alive (last seen alive):
Alphinaud
Alisaie
Tataru
Yugiri
Ysayle/Iceheart
Urianger
And of course us, and grumpy uncle Midgardsormr.

So that aside, who do we think is dead or alive, and did anyone else think that Raubahn is now ripe for possession by an Ascian? Also Tupsimati and Moenbryda's Aether collection wand were in the Rising Stones so we don't have access to those. This means that Ascians are gonna still be a huge problem until we can clear the Scions' names.
What was the name Y'shtola said before she spiritbombed herself and Thancred? Has this person been mentioned before? Are they important?
Did anyone else feel that Haurchefant as being a bit too casual? All of Alphinaud's friends apart from basically you, Tataru, Cid, and his Sister are either missing (presumed dead) or turned on him. I know there's something to be said for like ... happiness bringing you out of despair but ... wow
What do Limsa and Gridania think of the Scions and the WoL now? Surely they wouldn't like ... accept that you killed Nanamo?
What will happen with Aymeric when he finds out we're in Coerthas?
Speaking of which, I guess we're not getting to go there as soon as we all thought huh? Looks like we'll need to do a bit of work before then.
I guess the Main Scenario in 3.0 will basically focus around fixing all of this stuff in a very different, more localised way than 2.0, with the backdrop of the War. Clearing the characters' names, seeing who survived, all that stuff.
I'm hyped but I'm just.
Thanks to the lore team for this. FFXIV is my home. And my home is on fire.
I think Hydaelyn didn't let Minfilia leave because it's possible for her to (somehow) save Yda, Papalymo, Thancred, and Y'shtola. Other than that, dunno.
Her sister, Y'mhitra, who gives the SMN quests.
He's always been a bit of an oddball, English just dialed it back a bit (which would be hard to do on this one given his body language). That's my guess, anyway.
Yeah, good freaking question. After all I did for Limsa Lominsa, Merlwyb just slinks out the door after shouting "Seven Hells?" She better have a good explanation or I'm throwing my weight behind Hyllfyr in the next Trident.
Frankly, I'm impressed SE had the (Thal's) balls to go down this path. Though ... I will rescind every single one of such compliments if they ever harm Tataru. You leave Tataru alone.

There's also
Add Wilred among the confirmed dead and Alianne amongst the missing.
Wilred may have actually hurt the most for me - you'd known him for so long and he was just a stupid kid who was trying his hardest.
Also;
Don't worry about Haurchefant, that's just what he's like.
