Either way, a succession crisis is inevitable and that's bad for the Monetarists.
So, if she did die, it would be better to just let the world know now and get all that sordid business out of the way, rather than consolidate as much power as you can in the time you have. Again, there's a flaw in that reasoning, that was actually pointed out by this fine lady here. Whether or not she's dead, they are currently using a time-limited excuse to maintain control, and time will run out in the expansion, no matter what truth plays out.

We're clearly both set in how we see things playing out, so there's no point in beating on each other.

While walking around and talking to npcs, I found this guy:

Edit: Anyway, it's in my belief that the Sultana is dead. I don't really see any reason for her to come back alive later on storywise, she wanted to make Uldah a republic. So for her to come back, people would want her to be ruler again. And also, I find that it would cheapen any further drama if she was still alive, making any future deaths questionable and boring.

Also, alot of people been thinking that Alianne is a traitor as well. I think not. 1 2
I've followed Alianne before she became a Crystal Brave, she was a compassionate person and wanted to fly by her own wing. She was simply forced into the scheme by the others, most likely due to her having doubt about those weapons and wanted her silent. Momodi noted her being quite unusual during their meeting, barely touching her food, perhaps a sign of stress knowing that she was unwillingly guiding our hero to a trap. Same for Momodi, from all the quest I've done (I started in Uldah!), she never shown being greedy. If she was, then she would have married the merchant from her Moogle quest, but she never did. She was simply unaware of the contents of the bottle (perhaps it was undetectable, which is why Nanamo drank it even though she took a whiff).

    So, so far, we've got:

    She's Not Dead
    • The journal just says that she's "motionless," then Teledji proclaims her dead
    • Why tell us about somnus if not to use it? (Overdose results in "eternal slumber")
    • The Monetarists hide the fact that she's supposedly dead
    • The Monetarists theoretically need her to wield the most power effectively
    She's Dead
    • The scene mirrors the effects of The Strangler (GoT SEASON 4 SPOILERS) cleaned up for RATED T FOR TEEN, of course
    • The game goes out of its way to show her vision go white from lack of oxygen as her heartbeat stops
    • She doesn't have any breathing animations, no matter how subtle, to act as a hint
    • If Teledji told all the leaders she was dead and then successfully had the Scions removed... what then?
    • Exploiting her death for emotional effect in a conclusion and then reversing it would be uncharacteristically lame.
Combination: She's Not Dead, But She's Never Waking Up Again, Either
    • If it was somnus, eternal slumber sounds kinda... permanent.
    Both interpretations are pretty convincing.

Whatever the outcome is, I just hope they don't pull some cheap, ham-handed trope rug out from under my feelz. They've done so well so far.

Was somnus in 1.0? Or was it only introduced in the Uldah starting zone questline?

I absolutely love the character of Lolorito. He's quite clearly the mastermind, even playing Teledji. Notice how -his- brass blades and traitors don't do a damn thing to stop Raubahn cutting him down but are quick to protect him.

The handmaiden was clearly in Lolorito's deeper pockets (being the richest syndicate member and Teledji's "nemesis"). Even if its never explained, I'm going to come away from this assuming Teledji wanted the Sultana dead, but Lolorito had the handmaiden drug the Sultana instead. I'l assume the handmaiden was given the last task of dealing an antidote or ushering the Sultana off somewhere. Watch out for any NPC called Lilira in 3.0. We met the Sultana in disguise in 2.0. I'm sure we will do the same in 3.0 even if its just a "token" meeting. The story came full circle with the scenes like the caravan and present NPCs mirroring so I wouldn't be surprised.

The inclusion of Pipin is a bit strange. I thought it was the Sultana in disguise at first... :-(. He only appears in Tales of the Calamity, and just doesn't seem to get on with the Sultana at all in that. Raubahn never talks about him, and he just so happened to abandon the front lines and comes back to Uldah for no militaristic reason. If your adoptive father had been arrested in a medieval state, wouldn't society put you under suspicion too. Is he supposed to be based on Pepin the Hunchback? I think he may have been in league with some nobles...

The Scions all seem to be dead though ;/ I also found it hard to chain my Quickenings when it mattered ;-/

As for who's behind the conspiracy maybe Ala mhigo has more to do with this than meets the eye? Ilberd still seems loyal to it, although this could just be his means to an end to imperial control. who knows.

I'm guessing this could all just be part of Lolorito's plan?

If it was a Garlean scheme then why would they get rid of Roilie (Flame 2nd in command)?

Who knows? If he somehow secures Omega weapon then that will be all he'll need to control Eorzea and to stave off potential Garlean invasion.

If Ilberd's still loyal to Ala Mihgo, he's definitely throwing the baby out with the bathwater if he's willing to slay Wilred, a fellow Ala Mihgan, just to do... something?

Do we even know what Ilberd's aims are? He's really a mystery at this point. We know that he holds Raubahn in contempt for his rise to power in Ul'dah after the fall of Ala Mihgo, but that's about it. We don't know if Ilberd intends to find fame of his own at the expense of others, if he intends to rally Ul'dah under his own hands with the intent of reclaiming Ala Mihgo, or if he wants something else entirely. Right now, Ilberd is a gigantic question mark and we just know that he's manipulative in his search for power.
