Giving more incentive for people to buy gil from RMTs so they can hit i130 without effort! This is the only question that matters in this thread, of any thread of any MMO post WoW that isn't a sandbox.
Raiding should not be the only method to obtaining end game gear. I'd personally prefer a system where all gear is crafted and the only thing that drop from raids and dungeons are enhancers like materia or gems or other things that can then be crafted into gear to make them stronger.

lol? So are you seriously going to tell me that if all endgame gear is crafted (which implies that you can buy them from the MB), there won't be any issues regarding players buying gil from RMTs to gear up their characters?
This idea creates far more problems than it solves.
Exactly what I thought...
Not only that, it would force everyone to do crafting... why? well, because everything would cost a fortune, and either you make everything yourself, or you have to craft to make money to buy on MB.
Brought it up on reddit already, wanted to bring it up here to get the attention of SE.
About the loot lockout in final coil:
The patch notes say that the weekly restriction of entering will be abolished. For WoD it specifically says that we can get unlimited loot, but for FCoB it only tells us about the entering. Im starting to think that, since its still so long until 3.0, the weekly loot lockout is still present.
Right now we need at least one new player to enter a turn and we cannot enter T11 before clearing T10 (and so on). With these new changes mentioned in the patch notes, we can enter any turn at any time, as often as we'd like with the same 8 players and the weekly loot lockout can still be there. E.g. today is reset day, my team assembles, we dont need anything from T10 and 11, we go into T12 directly and clear T12 and T13. Then we'd like to try out that new awesome tactic for T13 someone of us just saw on youtube. So we assemble and simply go in again with the same 8 players. And if we kill it, no loot for us.
Since we havent cleared T10 and 11 we can still go with other groups and upon clearing it with a group of 7 players that doesnt have the kill this week yet, we see two chests and can even loot on them. If we help someone else clear T13 that week while we already killed it, then that group will get only 1 chests, in case only 1-3 other players in that group (other than ourselves) already cleared T13 that week.
Other arguments contra loot lockout removed:
- still damn long until 3.0
- carbontwine/-coat and stone only once per week and only one of those
- no mentioning of the poetics cap
- specific wording on the wod loot, while nothing specific about fcob loot
So basically: No umlimites ilvl 130 pieces from poetics and no unlimited ilvl 130 pieces from coil, but unlimited ilvl 120 pieces from WoD and the ability to join any turn at any time. Sounds like a system that would help players clearing coil without opening up any endgame content for farming, since 3.0 is still months away.
It would be nice if we could get a statement from an official, otherwise we just have to wait until servers up and try it out ourselves, what excatly is going on.

Something to keep in mind is that we are most likely going to see more patches added in before xpac release. Yoshi-P's aforementioned 2.56 patch, for example, could house the tome cap removal. It may even be possible that it was accidentally not included in the patch notes for 2.55 (though this one is far less likely).
Whether or not they remove it doesn't seem like a big deal, one way or another, but I wouldn't put it past them to want to stretch out the grind a little longer until June, given that this is a new approach to an end for everyone to see in FFXIV. But if that were the case, I'd think this would be how it plays out (and somewhat of why).
2.55 - Remove cap on WoD and FCoB loot. Give WoD gear wider use, which wouldn't happen if poetics cap were removed at this point, and keep Poetics weapons from being looked at the same as Soldiery weapons.
2.56 (maybe in a month or so from now, i.e. early May) - Remove tome cap. Allow people to get pretty much everything they'd like to get before Heavensward.
What are you all talking about? Wod having no loot lockout isn't the same thing as having no tome cap...
First of all, with no cap on tomes, you could get an Ironworks weapon every week by just doing that weekly quest and farming tomes, instead of 3 weeks worth of tomes.
Second, Wod only drops 120 gear for you left side, you can't upgrade it to 130, and you can't get accessories that way.
And as for farming Coil... are you even listening to yourselves? The majority of players can't farm it, because they haven't beaten it in the first place. Having no lockout will not make it easier to beat it.
If you have beaten T13 and have final coil on farm already, then I guess this might feel weird, but a lot of people wouldn't even try to progress further in Final coil if they could just gear up every job with poetic gear...
I'm not saying I'm against letting go of the cap, because I would love for them to do that, but you can't claim it wouldn't make a difference.

Sheesh, getting 450 poets each week is already mind numbing as it is and you guys want the ability to grind for more? If you're that gear thirsty, why not invest all that time you plan on 'pouring' on poet hoarding into learning fcob instead? I'm sure you can convince some friends who were bound by their own group due to weekly lockout to assist you and boost your success rate. Maybe that's SE's intention in the first place.

Mind numbing? Yes. But still a hell of a lot less mind numbing than running a minimum 30 minute 24 man raid over and over with a small chance of the armor pieces you want dropping, and of you actually getting them each time. Additionally, a lot of people have barely touched SCoB, let alone learned FCoB, and having to put up with the bad attitudes and perfection required for FCoB for gear that is guaranteed to be outdated in less than 3 months? I don't think a lot of the more casual people will bother.Sheesh, getting 450 poets each week is already mind numbing as it is and you guys want the ability to grind for more? Because poetic gear is the easiest and fastest way to gear up your characters with very decent loot (without really needing skill in challenging content) that can further be upgraded to i130. While grinding the loot in FCoB requires skilled players and grinding the loot in WoD requires repetition and time commitments while gambling against RNG.
SE wants to make sure people still got things to do lol.
