I understand it's a "fantasy" game but there's no need to use this really old and quite frustrating to read English...

please phase this out and start using normal words... Portendeth? I speak excellent English but I still had to google this word (even google failed to understand)

The whole limsa pirate thing was frustrating enough, sure it was cool but you're putting way too much effort into it... if you expect me to read all these quests at least make an effort to phase this weird ye olde english style out of the game and start using normal english.

It's just old English, it's not difficult to understand at all, and it suits Ramuh's personality to a tee.

I respectfully disagree with the OP - I really enjoy the archaic words and phrases used, as it helps create the setting of Eorzea/Hydaelyn as a world that is nothing like our Earth, but a whole different planet with it's own unique languages, culture and dialect - it's worldbuilding at it's most basic.

Unfortunately, a lot of players (especially those who hate roleplaying and only play for 'the shinez'), regard the use of such language as being ill-fitting, even pretentious, and thus complain about it. Which is saddening, especially given the dedication the writing and translations teams have towards creating the game's narrative.

I am not a native English speaker so I don't also understand many old English words but I still enjoy them.

Imagine that you would meet a thousand years old being somewhere.. do you think it would speak the same English as you?

Honestly it's not that bad.
I mean they COULD put the whole game in Old English like people keep saying, and then no one would be able to read it at all, unless you're really good at German or a Nordic language or something, then maybe.

I agree with Enkidoh. I appreciate the old English in this game and it builds the world, portending (no pun intended) to the ancient nature of the Primals.

Please don't change it, Square-Enix. You're doing a wonderful job with the translation.

Yeah it's sort of annoying reading some of the words or hearing them spoken and you're kind of like "who talks like that?" But then you remember it's a fantasy setting and it fits within the world/lore. I think if this type of stuff was completely absent it would be more noticeable and distracting than it is with it actually being there.

I don't mind if they keep it here, personally I want it gone... but clearly some people love the idea.

I just wish they would ease up on it a little... keep the style there but use it less? sometimes I have no idea what characters are saying.

Actually I don't mind old English being used here, especially since Ramuh is fairly old and arguably the wisest of the primals weve encountered so far. It just matches his personality.
