    Not talking about job guilds but a guild with people doing stuff together. . .You could call them clans as well.

    In a Free Company you also can get certain buffs that help you level crafting/gathering/fighting classes and some other like chocobo xp increase, more spririt bond,.... Dependant on a rank in your FC the Fc leader gives you certain rights to activate those buffs use house/garden items, invite people to FC,.... A FC builds a commuity with the same goal (social FC= chatting/raid FC= ridprogres,....) you get FC chat channel to communicate with your FC mates.
    Linkshells are a pure chat channel where you meet to chat to raid or other goals... kinda FC without buffs and items that help you.

    In general I recommend to find a FC while you level up that helps you with gearing and answers questions. Social FCs are usually up for that
    Use your server Forum and/or /shout ingame to find a home. You can anytime leave FCs/linkshells so dont worry if you notice you dont feel comfy
