One important thing SE reminded me about this game.
Don't ever trust the lalafell!
Regarding Crystal Braves reasoning
Why all of them like Yuyuhase betrayed their 'realm defenders' beliefs and turned against their bosses? I doubt it's just for Syndicate bribe. Were they all infiltrated syndicate spies initially, even if seemingly were hired by Scions themselves?
It seems like there were only a couple of non-corrupteded Braves like the murdered Urth's Gift guy. Was Alphinaud really that blind?
Like they mentioned in the story, we don't truly know who is the ring leader behind all of these betrayals and attacks. The syndicate and Crystal Braves turn on us seems to be just one small step towards a bigger goal. Also, I don't believe -all- CB were like this. I believe it was just the inner circle of them planning this attack and those same are led to believe that the scions are the bad guys, so the rest of them turn on them. Kind of a they do not know better situation.
Also someone correct me if I am wrong, but do Ilberd and Gaius have the same voice actor? Their voices sound very similar.
Has anyone thought about how Gaius took over Ala Mhigo? He caused a civil uprising much like whats happening in Ul'Dah. Perhaps the new Emperor is taking notes from Gaius before his death.
Tbh I want uldah fall into the garlean empire, but.. ohh wait half of the monetarists are covert garleans
Um.. why has nobody at all mentioned the fact that, in the very end, nanamos manservent person kneels before that other lallafell who looks EXACTLY like teledji ...he is not stupid enough to NOT use a fake when everything goes down. After the Fake is struck down Raubahn charges at the REAL teledji in the mask and white robe, only to be stopped by ilberd...coincidence? i think not!
It's rather nice that they added more story text to npc's around Ul'dah. Speaking to Rand, just outside the GC area. As well as Mimishu at the gate of the Sultana. Apparently not all the Brass Blades are in on it. Mimishu says he was informed that the Sultana was sick, and hopes for her recovery. And Rand mentions receiving "strange orders of late" to "Report any sightings of the Scions".
Even the Thaumaturge guild leader seems to be getting in on it. Saying "I see you now flirt with darkness of an entirely different nature. Though my expertise centers upon the arcane, this mundane manipulation is naught to be scoffed at. Tread with care, Harley..." Not sure if he said that before, but it certainly fits. Talk to all the npc's!
You know, call me crazy, and please let me know if there are any holes to my theory, but....
Could Ilberd be Gaius in disguise? It could make sense. As you said, Gaius made Ala Mhigo fall by creating a civil uprising. Perhaps he did this through the persona of Ilberd, which is how him and Raubahn knew each other. Gaius is confirmed to be a highlander and his voice does sound similar to Ilberd's. In the ARR story, Gaius is shown being defeated, but he is caught in the explosion, but did we truly see him die in the explosion? He could of survived, brought back the Ilberd persona, and using the same influence to take out the scions and Ul'Dah, working it all in the background. Also noticed while it is not a gun blade, his fighting style with his sword seems similar also, and had enough skill to take an arm off Raubahn. It is also very convenient that Ilberd was able to find out who the "Garlean traitors" were very fast in 2.4. I could be wrong and please point anything out against this theory, but this would be really cool if this was a thing.
Interesting thought, and it's a possibility that this is the Empire causing an uprising so it can expand its territory even further into Eorzea. Think about it, the Crystal Braves are in every city state, and the Syndicate just used them and the Brass Blades to take control of Ul'dah. It's not crazy to think that the Empire is behind this, which may also explain why the other 2 city-state leaders made a hasty retreat during the ending, they realized that things were about to go down, and they need to be back home to prepare for a possible betrayal from the Crystal Braves in Limsa and Gridania.
