Also as a side question is there a /played command ingame? Something that tells you the age of your character and how long you've been playing that one?

Also back when I first started the toon I read something about an achievement vendor having all my titles and stuff like that where do I find him?
The challenge log is VERY useful. It resets weekly (and you don't need to do anything special once you've picked it up, you'll finish stuff automatically after Tuesday reset) and you get tons of exp for completing the challenges (5 FATEs in different regions, 20 levequests, stuff like that...nothing grindy) - checking on my level 30 BRD, I would get 24,375 exp for each of the two FATE challenges (Highest rating in 5 FATEs in 5 different regions & complete 10 unique FATEs). The exp adjusts to your level - for the same challenges, I'd get 48k each on my level 40 PLD and 5.3k on my level 15 lancer. You unlock it through the level 15 quest "Rising to the Challenge" at Limsa Lominsa Upper Decks (x11,y10) - the NPC is I'tolwann.

There is no way to see in-game how long you've played.

The achievement vendor is in Apkallu Falls in Old Gridania. His name is Jonathas, Master of the Rolls. However, you get titles immediately upon getting an achievement - they're in your character menu under the profile tab. You click the little triangle to the left of "Title" at the top of that tab.

On each class, or just on one of them? If you've only done it on one class, you should do it on the others, too - especially the lancer. It really helps at those lower levels!

Heh Thanks That's not very intuitive is it. Most things in the game seem to be character dependant (once per character) I'd assumed they were the same. I guess I'll have to do em again LOL.

I think some of the achievements I've done have gear (at least one had a picture of pants when it popped up notifying me it was done) would I talk to him to get them? I didn't realize the titles were already on my character sheet I must have missed it when I went looking.

Are there any other tips people can give me for leveling up? I'm honestly not looking for fast just ways to do it as there doesn't seem to be many ways :P I'm thinking I might be interested in playing a white mage in the game as well how is their soloing skills for questing? How do fates and such take into account healers? I know Rift gives healers xp for damage healed during their rifts does FFXIV do this as well?

It used to be, but they changed it in 2.1 or 2.2. I personally like it. The challenge log is, however, per character, since I didn't say that. I've gotten sad a few times because I accidentally got a challenge log on a level 50, thus throwing away however much exp I could've used on a leveling class for the week. :c

Each time you talk to him, he'll give you one achievement's item(s). You have to talk to him repeatedly if you're cashing in on multiple achievements. After you've already talked to him and gotten the item once, you can buy the achievement items again from the Calamity Salvager in each major city. The Gridania one is outside the Amphitheatre in Old Gridania, Ul'dah is Steps of Thal in the Milvaneth area (between the Weaver and Miner guilds), and I don't remember Limsa's off the top of my head.

Healers don't get anything special in FATEs. But! You do get rating points (or whatever you want to call it) towards getting gold rating from healing - your FATE rating is based on how much aggro you generate, not the damage you do, and healing generates a lot of enmity. I've gotten silver in a FATE because I drive-by healed a low level who was having a hard time, even though I didn't touch the FATE boss.

WHMs have a few dps skills. When it comes to solo'ing, you'll pretty much be going dps-dps-dps-heal self-dps-dps-dps-etc.

As far as leveling tips, I think I've already exhausted all of mine. xD

All achievement notifications have an icon to go along with them, they don't represent the reward.

here is a list of Jonathas's rewards:

Are you kidding! You've been a tonne of help Keydah thanks for all of it

I didn't realize that's how fates worked. Seems kind of odd that a lower level person will get less rewards from it in that case (not that I've noticed any real drop doing them 3-5 levels over mine and still getting gold/silver).

I'm gonna have to talk to the guy like 15 times >.< arg The Gridania one is perfect though I unlocked summoner last night and started working on Lancer. I decided I'm gonna get all the classes up to the jobs that interest me before trying out all the jobs and figuring out which one actually interests me to play long term.

New question! Why cross discipline skills like triangulate you can't chop down a tree while in arcanist for instance. Why would I want to stop whatever I'm doing change gear (even with the gear selecter) chop down the tree and change back it seems odd that anybody would want to take that much time to do that... what am I missing here?

Well, even though it works that way, I've had very few (like...2 in a year and a half) experiences where lower level people (or me as a low level) got a bronze or silver just because there were better geared or higher level people in it. That's part of the "You're 6 or more levels above this FATE, you have to sync" function I believe - stopping that from happening.

If it didn't work the way it does, tanks and heals would probably have a hard time getting gold because they can't pump out dps. This way means that healers can still get gold from healing, tanks can still get gold from tanking, and dps can still get gold from beating on stuff or spewing fire at things.

The exp hit for being below level is pretty low. In Coerthas I was only taking a 1-2k exp hit from being 3 levels below a level 38 FATE I got gold in.

Another FATE tip: If the mob's name & health bar is red, you pulled initial aggro. If it's purple, someone else did. If you turn..6 or 8? mobs in the FATE red, you're basically guaranteed gold (this doesn't apply to actions that pull them but don't actually do damage like GLA's flash - you have to hurt them to get credit for pulling them, basically) If someone is coming into the FATE and pulling everything and not letting you touch anything, start aggro'ing things yourself.

I really don't know why stuff like Triangulate is cross-class able to battle classes, but the gatherer skills are meant to be cross-classed onto other gatherers. You only use battle class cross-classes on battle classes though - there's no reason to ever touch the gatherer ones unless you're on a gatherer.

This is tough when higher levels come in and spam aoe attacks/spells constantly. I do have to say I never feel as though I get jipped in a fate.

Yeah...I generally try my best to only aggro a few things and let everyone else get the rest, but when greedy people come in, you kinda have to be greedy back and try to hit as much as possible.

Stuff like Triangulate works as a cross class skill if your running around a zone and want to know of any havesting nodes your passing. Admittedly its little use at end game but Truth of Mountains and Truth of Forests can be useful if your not tracking Unspoiled nodes (endgame havesting things) with a timer. For Obeliske's sake, Unspoiled nodes are time limited nodes that appear and disappear from a map so you only have a limited window to harvest them but since they appear at regular times most people just use a website or app with a timer.

Generally though you just want to use combat cross class skills if your in a combat class.

By the way, if you do want to get into crafting which is pretty much its own set of classes, it's worth noting the cross class skills in Crafting are very powerful. Some in particular, like cooking and weaver, can vastly improve the ability to produce high quality goods. If you want to get into crafting though, leves are your best friend. For both crafting and harvesting, leves are at the top of the list on the best sources of Exp, particularly cause with crafting handing in a HQ item gives double exp.

Have you done your chocobo companion quest yet so you have a combat companion?
How to fight with your Chocobo? or include in your Party

    1. You must first be Level 30 with a Disciple of War of Magic class to unlock the needed quest! The quest is located in Camp Tranquil, South Shroud (Gridania).
