When does this game become difficult

As the title says when? I know I am only lvl 25 but other MMOs are never this easy after lvl 18 and dungeons are always difficult. As of right now everything has been a walk in the park, and that includes 4 or 5 dungeons. I remember all those years ago (03 or 04 cant remember the year Player) FFXI had so much tactic to it and a couple wrong moves was the death of your party. This one is more inline with WoW and the dungeons in WoW (06 Player) were at least more difficult then these. I quit the last two MMOs I played after a month (World of Warcraft and GW2) because I never felt I sense of accomplishment. I just don't want that to be this game. So are the later quests and dungeons put real pressure on you?

Titan probably is the first point people start to find it more difficult. To be honest, not many MMOs on the market have very high difficulties outside high end raids. The mechanics later in FF14 though can be far less forgiving though many of the lower level dungeons are overgeared by pugs at the moment.

Again, a lot depends on what you call difficult. At level 25 though, no your really not running into much to challenge you. They have a rather forgiving difficulty curve for new players in this game.

Some later endgame content (raiding and stuff) will do this but XIV is designed to be a much more casual themepark style MMO and so its never going to be up to the difficulty of XI.

Leveling to 50 is especially intended to be easy. Titan at 34 is the first time you'll see multiple mechanics start entering fights, and then Garuda at Level 43 is the culmination of that prior to hitting level 50.

Leveling your FIRST class to 50 is easy as you get EXP from both the mainstream story and the Class/Job. Leveling additional Classes depends on how good your patience is. eg Leveling additional DPS classes is more efficient from spamming FATE's while leveling Healers and Tank's is more efficient from dungeons. Either can feel boring or unchallenging from the repetitiveness.

It's not like it was at Launch where everyone thought the Primal fights were hard and there was a lot less ragequit from failure. Right now overgeared players are invited to do the dungeon roulette, and it makes them significantly easier since the dungeons only cap the player's level (or item level) well above the point of making it easy, if it's capped at all.

There is a dungeon difficulty spike when you reach level 32 - Brayflox's Longstop. This is when you'll really have to start paying attention to mechanics or you can't get through the dungeon. My boyfriend and I have failed it as tank + heal, dps + dps, heal + dps because one or both of the other people weren't on top of their game. However, the mechanics are easy to get if you have a brain, and you don't have to be reacting on the fly like Titan (I don't remember the normal mode, but the 50 hard mode is really fun)

For the most part, the "whoa omg wtf" mechanics are saved for endgame. The first time you'll see a super crazy fun mechanics filled fight is the second story dungeon of 50, Praetorium...but Praetorium is nothing now if you get any overgeared players. Until then, the dungeons are pretty fun but easy to master between 32 and 50.

Pretty much this. You will notice this spike especially as a tank or healer. From that dungeon on stuff starts to hit a lot harder, and you'll get to fairly important mechanics (Doom for example).
The next big spike you'll see will probably be post-50 with Extreme Primals. Most people are overgeared for Titan HM which was a pain at release.

I'd say stick with it. I'm also leveling Lancer/Dragoon right now and it got more fun as I leveled up.

Difficulty in this game only --> Titan/Ramuh EX (if not in helpful FC/LS and have to DF)
-------> Coil T5 , T8 and above (same as above if u on ur own , will have hard time)
EVERYTHING ELSE can win in DF ( w/o even use any source of communication lol)

Difficulty is in the eye of the Ahriman

It depends on what job you're playing, but several of the class/job quest battles can be challenging, particularly if you're a rather fragile caster.

I also found the next two primals you will face (Garuda, Titan) to be hard when I did them shortly after launch.

Otherwise I'd say.... high level crafting.

Which is to say... different players have different ideas of what "difficult" is:

There are a number of battles, especially after lv50, but also in some earlier dungeons and trials, where you need to pay attention to mechanics - this is probably what I would consider "difficult" and also "fun!"

There are certain beast tribe quests (item transport quests that end if you are hit) which I managed to fail multiple times, but they seem to be easier now. (lv40+)

There are also activities that somewhat challenging puzzles (at least if you solve them yourself) like triple triad, riddle quests, and high level crafting. (varying levels)

There are certain FATEs (Odin, Behemoth, Gorgimera) which can usually only be won by large forces and/or can take a while to complete.

There are other "grindier" forms of difficulty such as:

Quests that take a long time (in Earth time) to complete, such as the beast tribe quests (which I actually enjoyed.)

Quests that require you to travel to various distant parts of the world (fortunately you can teleport there usually) only to find that you need to go back to where you started. (Every story quest, and lots of others.)

Quests which depend on low item drop rates or a high failure rate, such as getting particular dungeon drops, advanced materia melding, or card collecting.

Quests which require a large number of repeated steps to complete, such as the relic weapon quests (which may also involve collecting lots of items), collecting tomestones or other tokens, or leveling crafting or gathering classes.

Quests where you may have to wait until the right Eorzean weather or time (e.g. catching certain fish, or gathering certain items) and/or for passage of Earth time (e.g. a-rank hunt timing and s-rank spawn conditions.)

Quests which depend on certain FATEs, which may take a while to spawn (and which you may miss if people finish it too quickly.)

Quests which seem to depend upon the actions of many people on the server (e.g. Doll festival quest) - this is a neat mechanic which I would like to see more of!

Quests which have too many people competing for them (e.g. hunts in patch 2.3 and 2.5) at once. (Fortunately hunts seem to have recovered as of the current patch 2.51.)

    Chocobo leveling.

Im new too and i agree with its super easy....in the twenties but don't don't worry the game does get more difficult..and you have to think more... I would say after level 40 is where thing really start kicking up. titan is your 1st real taste of difficult and man.. that Garuada fight is awesome. Lots of mechanics there... you can't sleep through that one. and 1-50 is supposed to be easy. But yes it gets better... and yes i was surprised too
