Some things, erm correction most things that can be collected for a few minutes of a person's time sell for stupid prices so in that sense yes there should be some undercutting.
He sounds like jerk so just report him for harassment.

In return however everyone anyone else who tries to craft the item takes a loss on it.

Most 4 star craft's aren't worth crafting right now on Lamia. Example 1.2mil in mats, sells for 1.5, 1.425 after tax. 225k profit = waste of time.

225k for like 2 minutes worth of clicking + Bouillabaisse

It's worth the money if you have the means to sell the item in a reasonable amount of time without too much competition, which if you have no immediate need for gil, you can just leave it on the MB and let it sit indefinitely.

For somebody starting out though, with chance to nq, it may not be worth the risk and the slow turnover. So essentially, they're just locking out the new competition from entering the fray.

it's a good tactic imo, on Jenova, I think there's a guy who's not actually selling any mcDs, but holding the prices below 200k by having like 20 listings at 200k. So whoever wants to enter the market will have to take that into account and it drove out quite a few people. Maybe he's selling the item on a different retainer and nobody knows it because it looks like they're in competition with one another.. It keeps competition out, he can have the market for himself.

I think it's hilarious people still get bent out of shape over undercutting. The marketboard is not akin to walking into a retailer who has the same prices. It's more like being at a *gasp* market with people selling off their goods at the prices they choose.The value of an item is only decided by how much people decide it is worth. If the price set is higher than what the decided value is (which of course varies depending on person, timing, and needs), then prices drop. If the price is low and the determined value is higher than the price, that's when people stock up and hoard. We see this in our real lives in some cases maybe at the grocery store, but generally, we're pretty sheltered from it. Retailers have their prices pretty set. I think people need to pull away from that mentality and realize that we do not have personal store fronts set up on the MB.
I, for one, will not stop undercutting. I have found that I have made my hundreds of millions of gil by moving more items at a lower price. Yes, I will undercut by a significant amount because it's more important for me to sell an item and make some profit and have that spot on my retainer open up to sell and make a profit off another item I know will do the same.
Likewise, I never get upset over someone undercutting me. This is the way the market is set up. Yes it's disappointing when I miss a sale on a i110 item, but there have been many times where I just put something on the MB and it sold. It goes both ways.

Just because your name is on the crafted item does not mean you're the one selling it either as lots of people are playing the MB game of purchase low, re-sell high.

It can be obvious if everything on that Retainer is craftred by the same person though.. but you could always still deny you're the one selling it.

If you continue to get abuse.. report them without responding.

Personally, I'd rather have an item I'm selling undercut by a large amount rather than 1 gil.. If I ever see an item selling 30k with another at 29999k under it.. I'll always buy the 30k one.

Venting your anger at me for competing against you does nothing for your cause.. I don't know why some people don't understand that.
