[PSA] Widespread issue not allowing people to log in on their main characters

So it's 6am est here and I figure this is my only chance to get something rolling for this before I'm gone for the day.

Since yesterday at around noon, a lot of people have not been able to log in on their main characters on multiple servers on multiple data centers. Just to give a brief summary of my issue (my character that is affected is the one I'm logged in here with) -

American player, playing months without a single server hiccup or issue
Played yesterday morning for a few hours then logged off around 11:30AM
Tried to log back on around 1PM and was greeted with this: http://i.imgur.com/DkE1C2R.png
Tried another character on another server - logged in perfectly
Submitted a ticket on the other character, was told there is no tech support on Sunday
As of today, 6am, still that one and only character locked out

And so here is the proof that this is widespread and a new issue:

Now, here's the funny thing. Using a vpn game program like WTFast allows me to log in on that character again. As soon as I turn off WTFast, that character is again locked out. It seems like that one character is somehow IP locked.

Again, please note, this is not an issue with individual internet. Everything else works fine on our internet. My speeds are fine, other services are fine. We can even log in on other characters to FF14. This seems to be character specific.

Disclaimer: I created this post after someone in one of the reddit threads went berserk telling us that it must be our isp/router/internet and it can't be on SE's side. I think the fact pattern is pretty obvious that this is on SE's side. I know the tech support thread already exists but this needs some exposure as we come out of the weekend.

Reminds me of the issue we had a month or so after launch, where people would get disconnected but their character would never log out of the game, locking people out of their characters for few weeks or more before it was completely fixed. Let's hope for a faster solution this time.

That sucks. I will definitely be keeping an eye on my log in credentials.
Do you play on windows? Is it possible some files corrupted? Perhaps try a fresh install?

It looks like we've (we meaning people in other threads) confirmed it's an ip issue from the use of vpns as well as resetting the ip by cycling your router. The strange thing is that only certain characters are affected by it. Obviously my ip is the same when I log in with one character and it gets in fine, but the other character it won't allow on. Unfortunately for someone like me with an isp-issued modem, I can't simply change my ip without 1) using a vpn or 2) getting a router - but the point is I shouldn't have to do either of these things as everything was fine until yesterday afternoon lol. I just hope they realize it's something on their end and they some how refresh the character or flush out the ip info or..something..

Not quite how it works, if you have a Dynamic IP, it'll change every time you reboot your modem, if you have a Static IP, it'll never change.

http://www.whatsmyip.org/ will tell you your IP, reboot modem, go back to it, if it's the same IP, phone your ISP and ask to be put onto a Dynamic IP (unless you host services on your system which requires a fixed ip address)

Since it's an issue affecting specific characters I wouldn't rule out possible data corruption as well. Try a fresh installation and see if that fixes your problem.

I have Comcast so trust me, I know I'm screwed. Have always had a static ip. Still, the issue is obviously not with my isp or ip, it's SE's servers not liking the ip for this specific character starting since yesterday. Clearly the ip wasn't an issue before!

If this wasn't affecting multiple people across different regions/characters, I would. Well, I guess I will tonight if we don't hear back from SE. It just seems strange that hundreds to thousands of us would all of a sudden get our main characters corrupted so that we can log on every other character but them..? This seems server side, not client side.
