    Random Materia, Seriously?

    * The same gear does not necessary convert into the same materia. Although certain trends may be observed in the transformation, adventurers can expect materia of varying types and potency to be created from the same item.
That just seems down right annoying to me.
Why not make it so that certain items will always result in certain materia?

Someone please tell me this isn't what I'm reading and provide a translation that tells me what SE really means by this. Do they really want materia to be random or are they saying the same gear *type* does not always convert into the same materia?

If that really is the case I hope the spiritbond process doesn't take an extensive amount of time.
Imagine grinding in armor for hours on end, and then lose that armor converting it to materia just to end up with a low grade Lightning materia for your melee.

Did you only read half of that?

    Item X
    • Materia A (I-IV)
    • Materia B (I-IV)
    • Materia C (I-IV)

    Item Y
    • Materia B (I-IV)
    • Materia D (I-IV)
    • Materia E (I-IV)

    ...etc.

Expect lists like those to be discovered and posted after 1.19.

I wouldn't be surprised if certain gear only produced up to tier 2 of a materia, whereas another gear had the chance to produce up to tier 4 of it and vice versa for other materias.

There's lots of trial and error, and infinite replay value being added to the game's content with materia like this. I really don't see anything to complain about.

Well think about it this way, what if one weapon/armor turned into a really powerful/useful materia then most people would buy just that weapon/armor, they wouldn't bother converting any other kind of items.

I am welcoming some randomness to the system.

    Indeed.

A certain amount is necessary for content such as this. It adds replay value.

Random +1. Otherwise eventually everyone will know what gear makes what, and we're back to certain gear never being made again.

no more random please, we already have a random chance to lose our gear when attaching the second-fifth materia

The more variables the better. +1 to materia being semi-random.

Maybe you're right, a little bit of randomness will increase total sales of crafted gear.

I guess I'll just take my own advice.
Don't sweat the details and get my gil ready.

Grinding for gil is never a waste of time if everything has a price.
