[PETITION] Include a Steam code with purchase of the physical Heavensward CE

First off, it's not a bad idea for the normal one too, but because of all the physical goodies, people that buy it on Steam are kinda screwed to buy it twice.

Anyways, SE has already stated before that people who bought the game on Steam need to buy the expansion on Steam. This is fine, except you're forcing people who buy the physical CE of the game and currently own it on Steam to purchase it twice.

By including a Steam code with the CEs, players can get the physical CE, and still be able to play it through Steam when they activate the code.

What list of business and logistical reasons? The only thing I could think of is if there are region locked Steam games.

There are a lot of games that include a code for Steam with the physical copies.

Also, I more made this for other people. I'll probably just end up buying both, or using my own workaround (it's a thing!).

If Square were to actually do something like this they would have to coordinate it with Valve in the first place, and it would likely result in Valve getting a cut of all CE sales since each CE would come with a key, regardless of if you actually used it or not.
The reason this would not happen is moreso due to expenses on Square's side, not Valve's. If anything, Valve would probably be happy to see it happen, as it would really only be a net gain for them. The risk of loss for SE is too high though, as not only would they potentially have to pay out a portion to Valve, but there would also be the issue of people taking the extra key they don't need and selling it to someone else, which is further revenue not in Square's pocket.

Humble bundle has been doing steam keys for pennies for years now with great success (SE has participated on a few occasions I'll add).

As mentioned, the only impact this would have would be on SE's profit margins though. Probably not going to happen =(

If you don't know the reasons, it's too much time to go into them. It's like teaching a class. Just believe us when we say it's not in Square's favor.

The game will go gold around mid-may (meaning the product will begin being made, DVD/BluRay/Statue/Artbook/Case/Instruction Booklet(if they have one)/etc) At this time no more items can be added to the product as the assembly line have been programmed/instructed to mass create this item.

So basically there are 1.5 months for changing things that go into the package. Now something like adding a pin or sticker decal to the box is simple if SE is the only person manufacturing the items (which they tend to do because they do have a whole "toy/figure" line-up of merchandise) however when you add a code or item that belongs to another company you have to start negotiations. These negotiations are usually about pricing, percentage cuts, creation costs, and net profit margins. They are not something that can really happen in that short of a time frame sadly. So I doubt, petition or not, this will happen...however! If you are truly dedicated to using Steam a better suggestion/petition would to be make Steam Codes available in future Collector's Edition expansions post-Heavensward. A petition like that is wholeheartedly possible if there is enough support behind it.
