Where in this maze of a world do i find the quest to get my first mount?

Just started playing the game....but its so difficult to find things on the map. Im level 21 now, and still not gotten a quest to obtain my first mount

Can someone tell me how to get the first mount please?

If you've gotten to the level 20 story quests for choosing a Grand Company, after joining up and getting enough seals (I also believe you need to accept a quest after joining), you then can buy a mount license at the HQ. So for the Adders, it's in New Gridania; for the Flames it's right next to the atheryte plaza in Ul'dah, and for the Maelstrom it's right next to the Aftcastle, in the Limsa Lominsa Upper Decks.

I have no idea if i joined the grand company

And if i did....i have no idea how to find the Headquarters

I have been doing the story, but forgot what it is called that i just joined. Its the "Scoins of something....." And the next quest to my story is far away...and my map does not show which way to go.

Yeah, I think most players are a bit over-leveled at this point in the story quests, so although you may be level 21, it sounds as though you're still at about quest level 17 or 18 in the main scenario quests. Just keep following them and once they lead you to joining one of the three Grand Companies, then look for the "My Little Chocobo" quest offered by someone at your GC headquarters.

From either Western Thanalan or Ul'dah, you can cross into Central Thanalan, and the south-east corner of Central Thanalan has a border that crosses into Eastern Thanalan. From there, just follow the road and it will lead you to Drybone.

In general, when you can't find where to go, your map can alternate between three different levels:
(1) The world map that shows all of Eorzea isn't all that helpful for finding your way around, although it does give some sense of where different areas are in relation to each other.
(2) Then the regional level map will show all the areas in one region (like all of the Thanalan areas, or all of the Black Shroud areas, etc.) with just a name and icon representing each but with lines between them indicating which ones connect to which others. For instance, this one would tell you that, although Western Thanalan doesn't connect directly to Eastern Thanalan, it does connect to Central Thanalan which in turn connects to Eastern Thanalan.
(3) Then there's the area map, which is probably the one you're familiar with. It only shows one area at a time (e.g. Western Thanalan), but shows it in more detail than the world or regional maps. It also shows where the borders are for passing into adjoining areas.

Ok, thanks, now i at least know i didnt miss the quest for the mount. It should be coming up soon. Though i joined "The Scions of the Seventh Dawn " at about level 20-21

I just started on Monday too and didn't get my mount till yesterday at lvl 25. I also thought I was missing something too, but keep doing the main quest line and eventually you will have to pick a grand company and then do one quest with them and then you will get the opportunity to get the mount. Though once you can, you first have to get 2,000 grand company seals. That doesn't take that long though. You can get them through fates, grand company leves, and turning in old gear to them. Then once you do get a chocobo don't get frustrated that you cant call him out. You have to use the whistle in your inventory to start calling it out. The whistle also disappears after use, don't freak out lol. Just go to your companion settings and hot bar the calling and withdraw of your mount. Hope that helps out. I got frustrated behind the mystery of the mount too.
