Anyway, I'm probably going to ignore the game if it the majority of endgame is instanced. We need at the very least a lot of alternative things to be doing in the overworld. For example, working for the companies at max rank could be incorporated, with tough HNMs spread out throughout the world (with randomised spawns etc) rewarding higher amounts of currency that can be spent on gear. At least then it's an option for those who want it, despite there being low-man alternatives to killing the big bosses that also reward currency.

The companies are the best avenue to do it I feel, so you can partake in a wide range of different events and always feel rewarded via currency, as well as drops etc.
Hey I said I liked that quest not that I'm any good at it! =D
Anyway I didn't have the map I tried to memorize it by heart but ended up lost and I decided to move only during daytime because then the wights wouldn't appear.

Btw- daylight and weather based monster pops should happen in XIV too that adds so much to the ecosystem of the world don't just spam every area with every monster without thinking about why they're there.

Even though its heavily instanced you still have to get to that area where the instance will start so I don't see any problem with this, making it instanced will give everyone more chance to have fun rather than specific group always doing the same thing or taking over a spot over period of time.

As next gen MMO I think it's the right direction for this game, but like mentioned in other thread I think it's also OK to still leave room for open world content for some things, it's up to the players to take part in it or not, if you don't like instanced then just don't do it, same as if they do release some open world content if you don't like how it plays out, just don't do it.

For me personally I would like to participate and I am probably going to face situations where I can't because of the hours I play and stuff but I don't expect the devs to make it possible for me or few people like me, I understand there are others that has time to do more stuff. Dev's are going to make contents available for both hardcore/heavy players and casual players, don't expect them to release both content at same time every time. There may be time it's content for hardcore/heavy players and other times it's contents for casual players. Can't complain when the content isn't always for your play style.

open world thing can have an "instanced" feel, i mean more along the lines of having be out in the public, in different nooks and crannys of the zones. Even if it involves popping a monster with a quest item, if its done out in the open you get that sense of it being in the world, instead of people dissapearing into their own. Things like campaign were a great idea IMO because not only could you do it solo or in a small or large group, but you always felt like you were part of a giant team where anyone could jump in. Its things like that which give me the feel of the world being used.

The one thing i really liked about abyssea was that it was fully open, you could jump into different events and they were all out in the open to do, things you could join, things you could watch others do and things you competed over.

I just hope they make it so it feels like the zones have life and that not half the people are in their own area.

Not *really* the same, is it? As opposed to an individual idea that can be tweaked and changed, this is a general plan for a large proportion of content in the future, if not all endgame.

Good job regurgitating what someone said in the logical place, but your application is a bit off.

I really hope they dont make only scattered NMs the only open world content, i dont want this game to turn into a hub game leaving the world almost empty because there is little reason to use it. It seems like he wants to avoid the claiming system from being an issue by devoiding the game of open content.

Things like NMs, HNMs, Eco Warrior, besieged, campaign and even most of abyssea were all great open world things that made being in the world with others worth while. I really hope stuff like those things make it in to this game in some form...or just anything that has you going about and interacting with strangers.

Again instances are great, but to make it be the dominate thing by far will hurt one of the big things that worked SO well in FFXI, the sense of community.
Eco Warrior was essentially a guildleve. Those aren't going anywhere.

Roaming NMs aren't going anywhere, and Yoshi has already said when talking about the changes to the claim system that they were still going to be a part of the game.

Besieged and Campaign are kind of the same thing. And yeah, I'd like to see something like that added to XIV.

But look at the stuff in XI that was instanced: Dynamis, Salvage, Einherjar, Assault, Limbus. No one had a thing to say about them. Why? Because the term "Instanced" wasn't used to describe them?

This irrational fear of anything that even reminds people of the existence of WoW is getting ridiculous.

when they said instanced it didn't mean dungeons where you don't see anyone. Sure there will be more dungeon but leves/behests are instanced and yet you see the people doing it.

NM pop with items could be instanced so only the group fighting it can fight it and outsiders can watch them if they want.

Campain/besieged? You will like hamlet defense, pretty sure they will be something of the like.

This is exactly what I'm thinking when they say instanced.

My feeling of them saying instanced is the oposite of what you have here, i REALLY hope they mean stuff will be done out in the open, but thats what comes to mind when they say that, everyone plays in their own worlds most of the time....which would be a HUGE bummer.

Has anyone not enjoyed running by somewhere and watching a group take down a giant monster out in the open (or watch them die a horrible death lol), stuff like that needs to happen and hopefully they will make use of the new spaces they design.

btw...wth happened with hamlet defense? they talked about it a long time ago and we have not heard a peep about it in forever. Did they just scrap it?

No they have not scraped it ^^ while not having a lot of info this was in the producer letter XVI :

Missions catering to higher levels are scheduled for patch 1.20. Caravan escort will pave the way for the upcoming hamlet defense content.
Also, if it makes you feel better, I am pretty much 95% sure that when they say instanced content it doesn't mean in a seperate instance where others can't see you (like dungeons).

leves(all kind), behest, story/class missions and a lot of quests, all these things are instanced where only you and your group can see the mobs until they are claimed but other people still see you and see you fighting the mobs once the fight is started.

With a seamless world like FFXIV: We NEED open world content.

People complain about the blandness of the areas. What happens when you add a truely NOTORIOUS monster to it. One that people know and have heard of, because it's incredibly powerful and rare. Give us a place like King Behemoth's dominion where new people hear the name and venture there with rumors of a giant beast. Give us a place like Ulegerand range where I climb a tough mountain to find a massive dragon that takes up my entire screen when I get close enough to see it.

It's true that most of FFXI's stuff was instanced too, so I'm not that worried. But it was the LEGENDS the stalked the open world that were truly amazing. Make the world I can explore interesting.
