The races - no lore, just faces.

Perhaps someone will immediately prove me wrong,
but to me it seems like there is no actual background
story for the different races in-game.

In FFXI, you had plenty of references to wars of
separation, independence and supremacy between
the races, and some stories of great migration waves.

But in FFXIV, all we have is some meagre (and pretty
unfounded) descriptions. There is said to be an adversary
between Wildwood and Duskwight. Is there any trace
of evidence in-game that this might be the case?

Some quests are having Backgroundstories about the different Races, but not really that much like it was in FFXI. I wouldnt be surprised if we will get more Infos in upcoming Mission/Companymissions. Which would make sense, since the different Companies have different Leaders of the different Races. I always liked very deep Storylines and that is what i still miss in FFXIV, so i hope we will get more of those in the Future of FFXIV.

I hope so, too. I really miss the constant latent racism I faced as a Galka in Bastok (such things are funny in a game - not so much in real life).

Same here. A Hume buddy in my LS thought the term "pick chucker" was hilarious, so he always called me that. What's funny about it is how upset it made me. Getting so attached to a character and it's backstory is a huge part of an MMO, so I liked that something so stupid could upset me so much.

Can't really speak for the other cities, but I know in Ul'dah there is a Lalafell npc that complains about how the city has been overrun by the other races. He talks about how it used to be a Lalafell paradise and such. Probably similar conversation NPC's in the other cities as well.

It's not really in-game yet, but yes, there is lore for the races. Check out the instruction manual.

Once they implement Male/Female for the existing races, and possibility of a new race? I think they will develop more on their back story then..
