    Inventory on different platforms question

I play on PC and PS4 but for some reason the Inventory is handle in a different way on each platform. Each time I switch platforms my inventory got messed up. Both Platforms have the exact same settings for inventory handling. Anyone have this problem? Is there a way to solve it? (Retainers don't have this problem)

It's not a platform issue, I play on 5 different computers and it does the same thing when I switch computers.

Also, what's really messed up is when you do a search for item query, it pulls it off of your local data, so if you haven't summoned your retainer after changing computers, it'll give you results from the previous retainer inventory.. This happened once when I made 300 circles of raptor leather at home, then logged on at work..I kept doing search and it would tell me I only had 30 of them.. I was freaking out and decided to actually check the retainers manually and it was there.

I play on multiple PCs too and I think of it this way: Data needs allocates in a scattered manner, and when a new computer reads that information, it's jumbled in the transfer. That's what happens to inventories. It's a little annoying, but nothing a sort can't fix.

No, it's the files in your My Games\FF14 folder under your character folder.
ItemFDR.dat or ItemODR.dat are the culprits.
What baffles me is why SE decided to store that kind of data on client side, almost everything is saved client side for this game one exception I've seen so far is your cross class skills, those are about the only things saved when you log off.. and your title.

Saves on bandwidth to have the information stored locally.

Not really. The client could handle this sort of thing until logout, during which the data is sent to the server to be stored with the character's own data. Then the data is sent back on login. There's no need for a continuous update for this stuff. If we're worried about a connection failure screwing with it, maybe we send it to the server whenever a zone change happens. That would keep it relatively up to date.

Additionally I should point out that every MMO on the face of the planet EXCEPT FFXIV does this without a problem.

Well i dont have problems from PC to PC because I save my characters Data and transfer it to the other PC everytime so everything stays in place. But that doesnt work from PC to PS4 or backwards.

Yeah i dont even know whats the complain of SE everything about servers getting stress, about the amount of space.... come on we are in an era where we can have half a Gigabyte in the palm of our hands or less. Those micro SD are like 256 GB XD. There are smaller MMO that get less money than SE and they got bigger and much better servers.

content of inventory is saved server side
How the content of the inventory is sorted is saved client side to save traffic.

multiply it by the amount of players who play at the same time world wide.
Or wish some players the good old time from 1.0 back, where it needed 10 seconds to show us our inventory?
