You know you can easily. Glance at their party mark if they are in a party with you.Hyperbole, much?
I think it's more fun to play alongside magey-looking mages and armorey-looking warriors. I think its fun to be able to look at someone and tell what kind of role they would play in combat by the garb they carry into battle.
This topic is all opinion though, so you will find no right or wrong answers in this thread.
Or at their weapon.

One thing I talked about with a friend was removing class-restricted gears, but as a reward for leveling them. So it would kind of go like this:
Upon reaching level 50 (or in Heavensward, 60), players could undergo a quest to test their role mastery. Once proven themselves, glamour restrictions would no longer be in place for that class to be cast upon any other class. This would show that if you see say, a LNC wearing Arachne Healing robes that the player inspected had previously mastered their healing role (or at least one of them). So with a system like this, it's a reward for those who level / play all jobs/classes as opposed to sticking with one or two. Maybe if you complete them all, too, you get special attire or something.
Just a thought, but I think it would be pretty neat (if DoH/DoL were involved, I'd love the LTW clothes...).

Glamour freedom for everyone! \o/
