Definitely agree with op 100%, the more freedom the better.

Whether someone wears a bikini tanking or a head to toe set of armor to me, is totally irrelevant, BUT if the person doing so is happier wearing what he/she chooses then that IS relevant to me and should be the priority of SE.

Not only do we need more freedom but we need a heck of a lot more choices/variety as well. Much much more stylish fantasy gear options like Lilyarel pictured for all to wear.

They have been pretty hard-lined about class specific gear being class specific even with glamours. The devs have directly stated they're not going to let class specific gear be worn by other classes.
Basically, if you can't wear it, you can't glamour it, and that's the way it's always going to be...for at least a year or two.
You can come up with all the arguments you want but this has been their stance since glamours were added and I doubt it's changing due to the sheer amount of effort required to do so.
And yes, it is a lot of effort.
First of all, many armor pieces aren't designed to work with one another on a graphical level and on an aesthetic level. Wearing the bard AF shirt with PLD AF pants would look ridiculous, for instance.
Second, they went out of their way to make sure you couldn't use the appearance of a class specific item on something that's usable by more than one class. They went out of their way to do this, as in this was a conscious decision on their parts.
For these reasons, and I know i'm being redundant here, they have no plans to make it so you can glamour pieces not usable by your class and be able to see it.

If they weren't going to let us glamour anything, then the least they could do is go beyond the typical looks we all have for our gear. After a point it all falls into the same general concepts, so it'd be nice to see a lot more variation but still be relevant to the aspects of each class, would be a better lore appropriate way of handling the situation. For example, maybe not a fully armoured mage that looks like a tank, but perhaps a mage wearing a small breast-plate, some thin greaves and armoured gloves or gauntlets?

Remember, Lore can be used to creatively explain ANYTHING. That's a given and not really in itself a reason to justify things. (imo)
Do you get upset when you do a levequest and that sheep was an imp in glamour the whole time!?

I short, turn all gears into "all classes" gears?

There is only 1 way how SE can change it and that have been proved that it work.
get away with requirements on gears and bring back favoured classes and optimal level. Synch the stats down if you wear it not with a favoured class or not with the optimal level.

I think it's more fun to play alongside magey-looking mages and armorey-looking warriors. I think its fun to be able to look at someone and tell what kind of role they would play in combat by the garb they carry into battle.
This topic is all opinion though, so you will find no right or wrong answers in this thread.
You know you can easily. Glance at their party mark if they are in a party with you.

    Or at their weapon.

One thing I talked about with a friend was removing class-restricted gears, but as a reward for leveling them. So it would kind of go like this:

Upon reaching level 50 (or in Heavensward, 60), players could undergo a quest to test their role mastery. Once proven themselves, glamour restrictions would no longer be in place for that class to be cast upon any other class. This would show that if you see say, a LNC wearing Arachne Healing robes that the player inspected had previously mastered their healing role (or at least one of them). So with a system like this, it's a reward for those who level / play all jobs/classes as opposed to sticking with one or two. Maybe if you complete them all, too, you get special attire or something.

Just a thought, but I think it would be pretty neat (if DoH/DoL were involved, I'd love the LTW clothes...).
