How Do Other MMOs Deal with the RMT Situation?

I'm just curious since FFXIV is only the second MMO I've ever played (TERA being the first -- and RMTs were practically non-existent there). I've heard of certain ones actually selling in-game currency officially.

So what other MMOs have you played that tackled RMTs and won (or at least, considerably lessened the problem) ?

It's pretty much the same except the UI is a hell of a lot easier to use so in WoW, you can just right click the other person's name and click black or report or both.. that's the norm in most other games.
Only reason it's so bad in ff14 is because the UI just sucks, every time you want to do something you have to click through multiple loops which makes it inefficient and most people give up on spending 3 minutes to block a person every time.. Thus, RMT are more persistent because the message gets through unlike other games.

Not sure what @Gillionaire is even talking about, it's two clicks of the mouse away in FF14.

Reporting people is tedious in FFXIV .... I don't even bother any more :/

Except it's not. Reporting someone requires more effort than just two clicks. That's why I never bother reporting RMTs anymore. Its not worth my time.

Except it's not. On WoW, I can right-click, report for spam. Done. They are now blacklisted AND reported.

On FFXIV, I can left click, block, hit "yes" and...well they're blocked. But that doesn't get rid of the problem, it just gets rid of it for me. Reporting them requires a whole lot more.

For the most part, in WoW it just blocks too. They don't do much about them. Besides, just like in every other MMO, you block/report and in an hour the seller deletes that character and makes a new one.

Honestly, I've seen some other cross platform games (DC Universe Online being an example) and the UI sucks because they have to keep the other platforms in mind when creating it.

The ones who do it the most successfully actually give players the tools to be able to combat it.

Like WoW is mentioned you can right-click a name and poof.. no more shit from them. They also dont have blacklist limits, which is a problem here.
Edit: also with Blizzard, if I'm not mistaken someone made an add-on that could filter private messages where if they resembled spam the add-on would dump the message.

EvE Online last time I played didn't really have a big RMT problem, at least not where they harassed the players but they have a very strong player economy and they sell plex (game time) which is in turn sold on the player market for in game currency. This essentially makes it legal to 'buy currency' as long as it's done through this method, which essentially takes the market away from the RMT companies to an extent.

Most other MMOs now you're not going to see it because they're really not successful enough to warrant an RMT company to go all out. So in some sense the heavy presence of RMT here is a good thing, it signifies that the game is doing well enough to have pests.

I've also played a couple of MMOs that had volunteer 'game-guides' that had some moderator privileges and could at least mute the spammers.

I also think SE doesn't have very good filters in regards to third party software because pretty much all of these spammers are bots, which means they're using software to spam tells everywhere. So that's one thing they could do that might help a lot.

They also need a report function straight from the chat window that should blacklist the account (not the character, the account) and of course lift the limit of names that can go into the blacklist to UNLIMITED Or send blacklisted names that generate from this report feature to another list entirely that is UNLIMITED
