Looking for guidance

I'm a new to XIV player - I spent about 5 years on XI on Alexander doing mostly endgame events and am trying to figure out some of the little things on here that those who have been playing for a while take for granted. I don't have a social and a lot of the players I used to play with on XI that are on XIV are spread across servers, so if any of you could point me in a good direction for finding a social that can help me progress in learning the mechanics I'd appreciate it.

for one thing you need to level an archer up to 15 in order to unlock the Black Mage job for your Thaumaturge. Jobs unlock when the Main Leveling class out of the two prerequisite classes reach level thirty ( Marauder level 30 + Gladiator 15 = Marauder/Warrior )

youre a tad past thirty but its not a real issue other than dropping your potential DPS. if you would like I can help you level your Archer to 15 so you can progress with your Thaumaturge as a Black Mage.

Thank you for the info, I wasn't aware of the lockout prerequisites but I'll work on grinding archer today when I get some time. (archer, to unlock blm? seems so... strange.) I've just been playing the story line mostly and trying to get comfortable with the interface. I'm still trying to "unwire" old XI patterns of behavior and adapt to this - almost relaxed - game style. Exploring the environment is refreshing but not nearly as deadly as I'm used to, so I'm taking it in steps.

Could you tell me what the difference is between a FC and a LS? I'm only used to the LS, and since my character is nowhere near endgame ready I was assuming I'd need to find a social shell to hang out in until I could progress further. My understanding isn't quite 100% obviously and is set from playing XI, so I'm not sure what I should be looking for exactly.

Fc is a community you join with certain boni that can be activated (like increased fighting XP or crafting XP reduced gear wear,....), ranks that give you rights for housing/invitations to the FC and activating those boni. Besides that you can set a personal message that only FC mates can see. You can only be in 1 FC at a time.

Linkshells are pure chat channels the "Master" can assign also here certain persons a "leader" so they can invite and kick but thats it. You can have up to 8 Linkshells.

Common is to be in a FC with your closest friend or raidgroup and have the linkshells for all other purposes like helping each other, chatting cross FCish, Hunting, trading,....

Thank you for the invite! I just hit 50 today on BLM, so I'm going to be looking for a place to call home soon. I've always gotten the most enjoyment from endgame playing so I want to find a group that's willing to teach me the fights (not speed run me through it and explain nothing, I don't want to hit that plateau anytime soon.) The game is fresh to me and I like that, and the instanced and auto-rolled party events makes things a bit more casual which I also find refreshing since I'm kind of on my own right now.

Yeah of course! Our group is known for flinging new players at content they haven't done and haven't watched a video for, while we walk them through it. In my opinion, it's a much more meaningful experience than "okay go stand over there and watch us, and when you die, try not to take anyone with you." We're always looking for people that fit in well with the group!
