I heartily agree with this. Sadly, it isn't about what we want, it's about what SE wants for their game. Yoshida has said in an interview that he and the dev team have decided that one person being able to craft everything and gather everything is a bad idea. They feel that "can do everything" has turned into "must do everything to do anything," which they find very daunting to new players. Their solution to this is to limit endgame crafting and gathering like desynthing is limited, by forcing players to choose classes to focus on. I honestly don't get how that changes anything, as it doesn't alleviate the need to level all crafters for their cross-class skills, it just means that you now can't do anything with those classes you spent all that time leveling. To me, that makes it MORE daunting to new crafters, not less. But, I don't work for SE, and they disagree with me.

This is why I do not believe they'll open up desynth more. That's not the way they're trending. They're trending toward one character, one class in each discipline.

how I understand specialized crafts is this:

    1. we can still level up all DoH classes to lv60
    2. all DoH classes get still common recipes from 50 - 60, maybe also one star recipes at 60
    3. You have to choose which DoH class can learn special recipes (2 stars and more)

I don't think the problem is people being able to do everything, but actually that people can sell everything. Square decided to charge for extra retainer sale slots and the markets blew out. Having that artificial control of limited inventory is what balances people with lots of time against people with limited time, not limiting the gameplay options of people with additional time.

    Meh, the specialist debate again..
I've learned to just deal with it and I'm working on my alts slowly in preparation for Heavensward.
All that'll do to me is make my efforts more focused and make me more fierce in the MB

Before extra retainer slots, people used alts. A little more annoying, but basically the same thing. Compared to the cheapest subscription (1 character per server), $2 extra per month gets you 20 new sale slots... or 280 new sale slots (by upgrading to 8 characters per server and selling things on alts).

What's funny is that now, instead of moving my items that i crafted on my main over to my alt retainers to sell and watch over,
I can just make it ON my alt and list it right away. It's almost as if SE is forcing my hands to be more efficient at putting my alt into work.
In fact, the idea of an alt will be very ambiguous when it comes to crafting classes, I'll just end up with 3 or 4 mains

Here is a quote from an interview with Yoshi around PAX that I based my earlier statements on.

For people that put a lot of time into it, one of the goals of Heavensward and later the patch 3.X series is that they will have a greater economic contribution. One of the new systems is the concept of Specialists for crafter classes. Like before, it will still be possible to develop all of the crafter classes without limit to level 60. After you finish training, you'll be able to choose a profession to qualify as a Specialist which may provide a special action or special recipes. It will also be possible to choose multiple specializations
The whole interview can be found here: http://www.bluegartr.com/threads/125...29-Translation

It's worth a read if you haven't seen it yet, it's packed with cool new info.

Yep, I've read it before and I'll still hold to my statement... we don't yet know the details of how specialization will work. Thanks for the link though!
