Suggestion: Allow bards to choose which type of limit break they want before a fight.

This is just an idea I've been thinking about. I apologize if this has already been mentioned before on the forums.

We know that there's a high chance that the bard limit break will be changed to dps limit break inline with the introduction of the machinist job. I'm wondering if there could be a way to keep the healer limit break for bard along with allowing the dps limit break to be implemented similar to how Ultimates are chosen in updated Street Fighter IV versions (Super Street Fighter IV, Ultra Street Fighter IV, etc.).

In the updated Street Fighter IV games, each character gets to choose between two different Ultimate moves. These moves are set before a fight begins so you cannot change them during the fight.

Why can't the bard limit break be like this? Outside an instance or raid, set your limit break to either healer or dps. Once it's set and you are inside a fight, you cannot change it until you have left the instance.

This lets bards able to choose if they want a dps limit break or if they'd prefer a healer limit break. It also lends a bit of strategy to limit breaks in general because it can easily be applied to limit breaks for other roles; not just bard and machinist.

The only problem is the technical implementation for this, as I don't know if the game can be tweaked to support it. It really depends how limit breaks are implemented.

I don't understand the change to be honest. I'm leveling up my Bard (41 at the moment) and in the dungeons I've been doing my healing LB saved a wipe twice on a boss fight after the healer bought it. No way a DPS LB would have saved the day there. Besides we already have truckloads of DPS LB's.

Maybe not in your specific instances, but I've seen plenty of times where a DPS LB has been the difference between success and failure. And having truckloads of DPS LBs available doesn't mean anything when the game puts you in a group where the only DPS is BRD.

    EDIT:

Besides, this is one less thing people can point at and say "BRD isn't a real DPS! Look, it has all this support stuff!"

You don't want to be saddled with the almost-useless Healer LB if given the choice.

For every success story of Healer LB3 saving the day, there are 10+ where the party insta-died upon rezzing inside a kill zone, failed in part due to the casting healer getting killed while in animation lock, or wiped because they blew the LB they now need in order to meet a DPS check after having several deaths.

Pretty much this. If it gets to the point where you need to use a LB3, its probably unsalvagable due to enrage timers. You don't get ressed with invincibility frames in this manner, you have a whooping seven second animation lock (I counted) where you are literally a sitting duck, people who are alive don't get their mp/TP restored.

Next you know, the tanks and healers will be asking for the options to do DPS LBs.

They've announced every class will have their own lb3 in 3.0. I believe the lb1 and lb2 will remain the same with the possibility of adjusting bard lb since it's pretty useless except in some very rare happenstance.

Hmm I'd like this choice for bard. I like my heal lb. Saved too many a run with it. Hell having a live choice of picking one or the other at cast time would work for me as well(tbh can't say it would be something really wrong - most times if on a boss it'll be a melee lb, if adds mage lb) tbh we don't yet know what the bard one will be and how potent it will be compared to the others. So having an option of picking heal or dps would be good. They could just give us a second limit break button so we can pick one or the other.

The Change is with animations. That drg or monk lb with the buster sword? Doesn't exactly relate to the class and is a bit insulting that they couldn't spare the effort before to do something that actually pertained to the class. The lb itself won't change, but that swords gonna be gone. (Specifying dps lb because that's what peoe see the most, and is the most obvious)

True... I'll miss my healing LB actually. I've gotten quite used to it
also pulse of life is awesome
but having a ranged melee LB sounds nice too.
    Choice is good.
