There's no such law to enforce.I know this is a giant problem. But isn't the route of all this the websites selling the kill. You take out farmers and another 10 will appear.
In my opinion. Square Enix really need to enforce the law and stop these websites operating...
Would it work to cut the websites out, then that might solve the whole problem.
When in doubt, assume sarcasm
There's plenty of them, actually.
problem is, that it falls under jurisdiction of the county the company is located in. If it's located in China, it's perfectly legal to sell in game stuff for RL money. Extradition will not happen.
That's why the only companies that get successfully shut down are the American and Canadian ones. And yes, there's a lot of them that operated out of the US and Canada. Most of them operate out of China these days because it's legal.
Only thing SE can do is ban players participating.
How is RMT violating a trademark?

Whelp my blacklist is capped 200/200 AGAIN; all full of RMT spammers. For the love of all that's RMT SE would you PLEASE stop playing "Follow the RMT trail" and just ban these accounts.
It honestly doesn't feel like SE has any global chat filters going because I get the same messages from spammers constantly. With SE's ineptitude at blocking RMT spam (that's right RMT/Bot team I'm looking at you) and unwillingness to implement proper tools it's almost like they're shoving us in the direction of 3rd party chat filter options.
During this RMT nightmare I have noticed something interesting these past couple weeks. The amount of spam I get when on low level classes (e.g working on DRK at 51) is almost null; I had virtually none as I went from 30 - 51. I tried idling around on a low level class (while alt tabbed working) for a few hours and had maybe 1 or 2 RMT. I switched to my 60 WHM and got hammered within a few minutes; this was constant spam until I swapped classes again at which point it stopped.
When I'm on a max capped class it's a constant barrage that drives me insane. I've taken to switching to low level classes while I idle around and it's been pretty quiet. I'm honestly wondering if RMT are filter spamming max level characters.

It's pretty obvious that SE is not willing to make any significant changes to make this not as big an issue. They'll just repeat their formula that doesn't work and that gives the illusion that they care when they don't. I gave up already, it's no use.
God forbid you make the mistake of thinking, I'll go ahead and turn on tells now, should be (might be) safe and then immediately after allowing them, get blasted with RMT tells (firmly realizing why you blocked all Tells in the first place). Needing to change my status to Busy all the time shouldn't be necessary and I shouldn't have to permanently block tells, but i do because quite honestly i have to thanks to RMT bots.
and there are always characters in the main areas of the city states spamming RMT using the Say command as well. so i can't even walk into the markets with getting some crap thrown at me. do i have to disable Say now too?? sooooo annoying. Square please do something. I can't report all these, I just can't. there are too many.

Yeah, "solution" to the problem... I don't think that's possible. But the fact that into our third year now, with a whole expansion added, we still don't even have proper tools - heck, not even any hint of any of those being worked on... that is just sad. And everything's been suggested numerous times, in this thread, in several others: an invisible mode login, restricting tells to lists, filters (don't tell me there are filters, I have been seeing the url of the same time for as long as I can remember, without any "countermeasure" in it against filters), one-click report and blacklist... indeed, the very Support Center itself that we have in game is probably the single most cumbersome and clunky part of the entire game to use (also detailed numerous times)! And just...nothing. No word on anything. We got right-click blacklist after asking for it so many times, but that's it - and has anyone "up there" actually tried to empty a blacklist that was full? That too is a royal pain. Anyhow, since then, all that's going on is a weekly report of accounts banned, which is obviously way inadequate, as it changes nothing at all in the behaviour or number of bots I see and get messaged by - day after day I see a bot in the very same spot in Limsa, day after day it's reported, it disappears, and a little later another one appears; time and time again I see clone bot armies in the cities, doing the same thing they have been for months, the same way, with the same appearances and gears and nonsensical names......... So yes. At least we should have tools to make their presence more bearable and manageable. But we don't even have tools, after going strong for two years.

Totally agreed. The devs won't do anything simply because it's not directly impacting. They have no intentions on caring about the long-term, only the short, when it comes to QoL. The fact that people aren't quitting simply because of RMT is enough reason for them to not bother. As tin-foil hat or ignorant as that sounds, it's how prioritization works in business. If something bad is happening and it does not impact anything noticeably, it gets backseat treatment to everything else that does. This includes new content, current bugs, etc. "They can endure it" is the general mentality. And, despite our dislike of the matter, it's true.
/signed Iagainsti Killamanjiro (Zalera)
my Blacklist is always too full XD

you just need 1 single GM to log in and start banning those shouts/tells. Wow So hard to do. mindblowing huh?
now ask urself why they dont do that.
