Gathering at 50

Why oh why is it:

A: So insanely difficult to get gathering to 400

and

B: Why is all the 60 and 70 gear so ridiculously priced. I've been a 50 BTN since the 2nd month of release and even with an entire HQ set of 50/55 gear for my BTN im still not high enough to gather some of this end game stuff.

Someone guide me out of the errors of my life.

You can reach 3 star gathering stats by going for lucis.
Supra will get you to 2 stars.
crafted forager's gear is not necessary if you're willing to put in the time.

There's a good reason the gears are expensive, it's the damn sealants.

Just meld your botanist's gear to meld cap, get the dodore stuff for gathering and max meld those too.. That'll push you over 400 gathering easily if you have your supra.

If you don't have your supra yet, well then your point of having been a lv 50 botanist for a long time really isn't very valid

the secret to lvl 50 gathering is.....don't bother. Keep your gil and just dig the 1 star unspoiled nodes.

The secret to Level 50 gathering is easy, do bother. I haven't spent one gil getting all 3 of my gathering classes to 50, geared, and with Lucis tools and Foragers' off hands. Made everything myself. It can be done but most people are too lazy....

My friend was in a very similar situation, where he had given up on fishing. I was un-aware of this until the day before yesterday.

Now he is fishing with me, we are working on the two star legendary's.

The point is, it's not as hard as you think.

353 is the # you need to hit to get foragers stop gap main hand. (& BiS hat) Should get you to 408 with Bis i55 gear.

From there you grind Supra and Lucis, at the same time!

They are changing gathering in 3.0 because they have seen that gathering isn't worth the time. No Crafter should gather, you should always buy off the board because you make more money crafting than gathering. Hence new special 2xsuper rare nodes are coming our way.

That said! Gathering is the easiest money in the game. Once at 408 food will get you to 420 and you can hit all but 2 nodes. Once at 450, you can make 250k an hour on my server. Most people point to SB as ez gil. But don't count time crafting or matts in their cost analysis.

Gathering has a 1 time cost of gear. About 4 mil on my server to fully bis. But after you pony up, 250k an hour until Xpac. Where you should see gath get more lucrative.

400 gathering isn't hard at all.

It is merely expensive and time consuming.

As Miner I am at gathering 452, perception 454, and 633 GPs.

Supra, iL55 accessories fully melded, Forager's hat, crafted forager's armor, fully melded, forager's sledgehammer with +12 perception.

This allows me to go for Virgin Basilisk Eggs. Which never sell.

As a Botanist I lack the forager's scythe. I am at gathering 440, perception 411, and 633 GPs. So I can't harvest Rosemary.

Go for the Antumbral Rock and Redolent Logs. They will get you your Supras and Lucii. Gathering 408, Perception: 389 to get any HQ chance at all.

Okay so I appreciate everyone coming in here to provide me with advice! It looks extremely helpful! The only issues, is Im having a hard time following a lot of it.

1. Ive been 50 for a long time, but I haven't used it very often.
2. No idea what sealants are
3. I believe my Gathering is about 320ish, cant remember off the top of my head and Im at work atm, what level gathering can I start getting these redolent logs at?

That shows what nodes you have available and the stat requirement for gathering star items.

Don't worry about sealants, those are crafter mats, you have no way to get them unless you craft and even if you did, it involves a long winded reputation daily quest that doesn't quite pay enough for the trouble.. You can buy the mats for forager gear and have a crafter make it for you for a fee instead, it'll be cheaper. Although you really don't need any forager gear, it's just nice to have but you can grind your way to supra then lucis for your 3 star gathering.


All in all, the supra grind should take you about a week or two. Lucis will take you about a month. That's a slow pace. I can do supra in 2 days and lucis in 5. It can vary a lot..

I have been a lv 50 SMN for 3 months now but it's still ilvl 50 because I don't play it

Technically it realllllly depends on ur server and what is hot and not.
If u got a small server with a small group of high end crafters, chances r ur 3 star node items won't sell as to the usual 1/2 star items.
U can be the best gatherer ever and be perfectly geared who gathers the not in demand items as to the lowly 1 star gatherer tht gathers the usual.

Imo just save ur gil and wait for 3.0 cuz honestly i'm 90% sure u can just buy ur way past the i60/70 stuff. Then u'll be like oh good thing i didnt waste gil on something tht will be obsolete in a few months.
Tht jump start may be the selling point in major updates but its 3.0 so who knows. Lucis might become vanity right from the get go.
Also have u considered ever using food buffs? Dunno lol
More of a band aod solution if ur looking soley at gearing.
