Scions of the Seventh Dawn in the storyline

Theres something I need to get my head around and I'm abit confused ...

I'm currently approaching the Lv40 stage of the 2.0 storyline, but several levels earlier at the Waking Sands bit, Minfilia was taken away by Livia and the garlean soldiers, what has happened to the immediate members that were there? They fled didn't they?

Erm. The quests after the echo of Minfilia being taken will tell you. If I recall they happen shortly after tho..

Basically everyone at the Waking Sands that wasn't killed (i.e. the bodies you cleaned up) was captured or escaped.

Once you get past dealing with the Coerthas part of the storyline (late 30s - early 40s), you'll have a part of the storyline that deals with trying to rescue Minfilia and the other Scions

Oh ok, I'm currently at the camp in Whitebrim on 39 at the moment. I'm leveling up alongside the storyline quests along the way.

Can I add a paragraph here about Alphinaud saying that our leader and some of our top members were captured by the biggest threat to our realm, but HEY! let's worry about it later, first there is this primal here that was summoned that we gonna deal with, k? Whatever excruciating torture they must be receiving is secondary concern.

Nothing takes off my mind that Alphinaud would like nothing less than getting rid of Minfilia... heh.

Alphinaud took the smartest route. A primal wreaking havoc on the land is infinitely more of an immediate problem than trying to rescue just a few of the Scions. As much as that may seem cold, it IS the best strategy. There would be no point rescuing the Scions if a primal as bloodthirsty as Garuda was left to her own devices, as much of the people the Scions are dedicated to protecting would have died thanks to her. And besides, Minfilia has the Echo and thus was considered useful to the Garleans, so even if they did torture her, it wouldn't be anything life threatening - if they even did at all, since for all they know torture could make it harder to understand and research the Echo through her. Even Minfilia would have seen the wisdom in Alphinaud's choice of what first to tackle.

Besides, I doubt even Alphinaud had thought it would take that long to find and prep the Enterprise for flying into Garuda's storm. The blame for the length of time it took to accomplish that goal was solely on the Ishgardians.

Our headquarters is destroyed, our companions either killed or captured, all but one who we find dying and who urges us with her final breath to hurry and get to the church in East Thanalan. So we get there just to wander around doing nothing much in particular except some random errands until we coincidentally happen to run into Cid and decide we may as well try and find his airship and then check out what's going on with Garuda. We dawdle around through the next ten levels and forty-four quests before we give any thought to what happened to all those people we so urgently needed to rescue ten levels ago.

Its the most nonsensical thing in the whole game, and all the more frustrating because there was no reason for it to have been set up that way. If the devs wanted us to go through the whole Coerthas and Garuda segments of the story before dealing with this attack, then those parts of the story should have come before the attack itself. It could have happened while we were off fighting Garuda rather than while we were off fighting Titan, and then the story would have fit.

Wreaking havoc on the land? No havoc was ever mentioned. It was pretty much just that she existed, so maybe we should check out what's going on. Certainly a worthwhile goal, as she would be a concern. Under normal circumstances it would have made perfect sense for the Scions to investigate her. But not when we were in the middle of an emergency of this scale.
