Can't create new character on Excalibur

I was on the free trial and got up way early in the morning to create a character on Excalibur. After a couple of days I was finally able to create a character. I have been playing for a few days and decided to purchase the game. After purchasing the game, I went in and tried to create a new character on Excalibur but it was grayed out.

Why am I prevented from creating a new character on a server I already have a character on?

That's the way it is -- it doesn't matter if you have a character there already or not... even if I wanted to create a new character on my server (Hyperion), I'd have to catch it when it's open to new characters.

The server's locked again, and that means it's locked to everyone. It doesn't matter if you already have a character on there or not.

Check back whenever you can they update the server list for new character creations. I know a friend of mine was trying to get on balmung and it was closed for weeks but he finally got on it a few days ago.

I had to get up at 3 AM Pacific time to make a character on the server where my friends were. It took 7 days and a ridiculous wake up time to achieve it. Was a pretty poor customer experience for me, but now that I'm in, I'm happy with the game and it was worth the effort to be with my friends.

It's a better customer experience than just locking the server to new characters completely. At least this way you can get in eventually with a little patience.

I think the server status in-game updates constantly based on the current population, so it's worth checking back more frequently than the website suggests if you can be bothered. Also, if there's ever maintenance or a patch day, try to get in ASAP after that and you'll probably find most of the servers are available.

Do they usually skip intervals?

The website states that the character creation restrictions are updated at these intervals
1:00/ 6:00/ 11:00 /15:00/ 20:00 (GMT)

But the last time it was updated was 1:00 AM GMT. and it is 23 minutes into the new window.

Is it assumed that there are no changes to the current restrictions until the next window. Or is it just delayed in updating?

I'm not sure. They may have just not changed so there's no need to update?

The character creation restrictions are updated constantly depending on the number of people logged in. The list on the the website is accurate only at the time it is posted, as the client itself has the current restrictions. Still the website can be useful to help guess what time/day that a server is not normally under character creation restrictions.
