Playing an MMO with a controller

Watching some videos of it and omg. That seems looks incredibly tedious. I dont think i would ever give up a keyboard and mouse for a controller for an MMO.

Its personal preference. But I think you have way better movement control with analogue stick and buttons much easier to press then keyboard buttons.

You can move while pressing down on mouse L+R as well, which I often use. I could also select targets using the mouse while moving with my keyboard. I think essentially controller mode is very precisely optimized for the game, while keyboard-mouse mode is the usual versatility mode that can end up better or worse than the controller entirely depending on individual preferences.

Personally I find the camera control on the controller quite imprecise.

The keyboard-mouse mode need a lot of keybinds customization. For example, my left hand covers 48 key-binds without having to move its position even 1 inch.

In the end it's all just personal preferences.

I've been using controllers to play MMO's since LotRO, a lot less button skating, fewer mistakes from not having fingers lined up (usually occurred when going back back and forth from typing in chat and going back to skills), and I've never used a mouse when playing any games, always feels so slow and restricting, prefer keyboard shortcuts if I can't use controller.

How did you do that with LotRO? I wouldn't mind doing this on days where I just want to farm deeds and such.

Logitech Gaming Software, allows you to map keys/mouse to your controller, and saves the keybindings for each game you've created a profile for.

I use a wireless xbox 360 controller with a "evil d-pad" top shell mod.
I have the interface in kb/mouse mode with the hot crossbar showing because I use a combination of both(with all 10 kb/mouse hotbars showing). for things I need quick access to I use the controller. a lot of people take a look at my hotbar layout and are like "holy sh_t Jenna, how can you play with that many hotbars on your screen?"
what can I say. I have it in a way that suits me
right now I'm trying to find a mount kinda like they have in the stores/shops for the controllers so that when I'm in front of my computer I can let go of the controller to type without putting it down.

on games that gon't have built in I use pinnacle game profiler myself. but if your controller includes software for it all the better.
for a free one you could use an older version of xpadder.

I use a pad because character movements are more responsive using analog sticks rather than M+KB in my experience using both.

Access to hotbars has never been a problem for me except when playing ACN-derived jobs. Primary hotbar for regular skills, secondary hotbar for situationals like Goad or Lethargy. Tap R1 during the GCD to get to my situational skill, tap R1 again. No actions are lost, 'on demand' skills like holmgang, hallowed ground, and bene always go on my primary hotbar, so...
