You know what would be great? The option to use *ONLY* a Forename

At the Chocobo Races in the Gold Saucer, when naming your Chocobo, you have the option of using *ONLY* a Forename. Instead of characters referencing you by First, Land, or First-and-Last name, you would just have a singular name.

I like this idea for a lot of reasons, but namely because there are names I love using, but don't have a "matching last name" for them. The main ones being:

Terin

Andaris

Drashuga

I love the idea of having a Warrior named Drashuga because, hey, it just sounds very "primative" and "strong", I think. But... how do you even come up with a last-name for something like that? Or Andaris?

OP isn't talking about chocobo names, he's talking about his character's name.

You can actually set the GUI to only show first names if you so wish - it's in the Settings menu if I remember rightly. First name and surname are displayed by default though.

Last I checked on this, I think the best you could do was show the last name as a single letter, but not get rid of it completely. I could be wrong, though.

Usually the problem with this is that every name imaginable is taken within the first week. You want to be named Lestat? Sorry taken. Ok, try Lastat. Nope, sorry taken. Lastatte! Boom, character created. Congratulations on getting a name you never wanted and are not satisfied with. At least with our current method you can pick any first name that you desire; as long as the last name doesn't match up with someone elses.

There's far greater freedom this way. In the past you'd have to jump from server to server hoping your "forename only" hasn't been used by someone yet.

Or, in my case scenario, not being able to use the name "Tobi Maru" on my server because it is apparently already taken but there is no record of a character using that name on my server via lodestone.... so I had to do "Tobii Maru."

I just wish we could set up the UI in game to only display character first names. Instead of First name + Initial, or just initials, or First initial+ Last name.
Not sure why this isnt an option for that ^^;
