QUestion about Coverting Spirit bonded gear's

I was spirit bonding some crafting gear and I was under the impression that those gears only convert to crafting mats, I was using bunch of Aetheryte Ring's to spirit bond and when I started to convert the rings I got bunch of elemental and attribute materias in the beginning I was using some wind and earth mat on the rings to speed up the bonding but removed them and replaced them with control and crafting 1's but still got elemental materias, is that because the rings have increase spirit bond gain by +1 or is it because I melded materias to my ring's, all my other crafting gears only converted to crafting materias but they weren't melded
