    Hi Camate,

Thanks for the reply. I understand it might be a lot of work if you had to add all attacks ever made into the Auto-Translate Dictionary, but I have to ask:

    1. How is adding *text* "consum(ing) quite a bit of space"? It's literally text (no fancy VFX, Textures, etc.).

    2. In the request it was asking to consider *Only* End Game Raid Attacks. Those are the most important to communicate with other players in other languages via Duty Finder. For example, in Final Coil, Turn 10:

    Critical Rip
    Heat Lightning
    Spike Flail
    Prey
    Crackle Hiss
    Wild Charge
    Cyclonic Chaos

You had to localize those names already (they appear in the database) for your Battle Logs, etc. How is adding a few lines of Text "consuming quite a bit of space"?! Huh?

Yes, I realize you have to multiply that by each Turn of Coil (and then later on Alexander), but they are extremely helpful, and again, it's Text, it's not brand-new Animations or VFX, etc.

    3. If Auto-Translate Dictionary is really so precious, why would you add "Coeurl Mount" and "Fat Chocobo" to the Auto-Translate Dictionary, and not something more useful like Boss Attack Names? No disrespect, but players get the Coeurl Mount and Fat Chocobo from BUYING the Collector's Edition. There's no need to Auto-Translate that to other players around the world, as if you needed their help to Unlock a Quest, or overcome some challenge to get those, see what I mean?

    4. Perhaps as a way to balance the amount of space (over time): You can *Remove* Boss Attack Names from the Auto-Translate Dictionary when the Raid becomes outdated (for example, by current events, you can remove Garuda, Ifrit, Titan, or First Coil from the Dictionary if you really needed the space).

I know it's more work on the Localization team's plate (sorry), but at least putting in the important Boss Attacks (from End Game Raids) would prove really helpful, especially since you're promoting Duty Finder / Party Finder as a core method for grouping.

    Please reconsider this. Thanks!

This was an issue in Final Fantasy XI, as well. The reason the community devs gave over there was that the dictionary used available RAM to store them into memory. Although you may not use the terms, the terms are readily available as you type in case you would use the Tab key for a translate function.

The amount of words for FFXI grew so large that the devs even removed a large amount of less popular/used words to accommodate newer important terms to free up memory.

Although the PS4 and PC have no problem with RAM, the PS3 has a smaller pool of memory to work with; considering the fact that it even manages to run the game at around 15-25 FPS, you can assume that the amount of memory available for even the auto-translate dictionary is very very limited.

Perhaps we weren't clear enough in our explanation, so please allow me to clarify on this point specifically.

As Camate mentioned first "there is a limit for the number of words and phrases that can be added to the auto-translate dictionary" - this is how the system currently exists and there is a limit to how many terms can be added to the dictionary. He then goes on to state "and adding all of these attacks would consume quite a bit of space" - "space" here refers to the number of slots that are available to use in the dictionary, a currently finite number. Hopefully that answers your question!

That is how I personally understood it, but I'm glad you came back to clarify as I guess others didn't.
You probably don't get enough praise for delivering news people don't wanna hear, so thank you!

Keep in mind that they still have to deal with the limited nature of the PS3... if they're using something like a lookup table that's using a short (16-bit) integer as an index, they really could run into a limit on the number of phrases in their table, if there's literally thousands of attacks and enemies.

There's more involved than just raw memory usage, especially when dealing with a development environment that likely uses C++.

Could we not create a new "Raid/Dungeon Dictionary" in order to place these terms in a new resource? We all understand about space issues. But I will be 100% honest when I say, that a lot of just here "PS2 Limitations" when we hear this type of response. We spent 10+ years being given this line while we played FFXI, and now we are all hoping we never have to hear "PS3 Limitations".

Then take out some stuff, like has been mentioned before. (Of course, ty for all your hard work on getting them added in the first place!) There ARE some things that are not needed as much: mounts and minions, for example. And others have said that there are some remnants from 1.0 that aren't even in game any longer. Phasing some unused words over time makes sense to me.

    Hi Bayohne,

First off, Thank You! so much for the hard work you guys do. We really appreciate it.

Thanks for the clarification (about a finite # of slots (and not just total amount of space)). I think the other questions in my post above still stand, though, and there are some great suggestions from Zfz, Sadana and others:

    1. If space is limited, then remove the Mounts and Minions from the Auto-Translator. Again, seriously, why is {Fat Chocobo} and {Coeurl Mount} (and others) in the Auto-Translator?! These items are *bought* from the Collector's Edition game. Its value in the Auto-Translator is so low, compared to getting Boss Attack Names in.

Removing all of those little used terms would free up space.

    2. Then consider a revamp of the Auto-Translator system. I know there are finite resources, but as it's currently implemented it's extremely LIMITED in its usefulness.

    3. Again, to reiterate (since some people were asking): We're *not* asking for 100% of "All Bosses" Attacks to be added, merely the ones that are End Game Raid level to start.

There's consistently 1 Highest Level Raid (currently, Final Coil), and in 3.0, it sounds like it's Alexander. Start with only that. Just those key Attack Names in Auto-Translator.

Of course I'd love to see more (to help brand-new players in low-level dungeons), but if we have to choose and can only have a few entries, then those would be the most useful for coordination in DF / PF.

    4. And, again, you can REMOVE Attack Names once they become deprecated beyond a certain amount of time / Item Level increases.

This is one of those items that may ostensibly feel like "not worth our time," but Final Fantasy XIV is an international game. This is one of those Quality Of Life changes that definitely would have usefulness and be helpful in bridging communication issues between speakers of different languages around the world.

And it makes FF XIV the better game for it, leading to more success and more enjoyment by all. Is that not worth it?

That is what you call pure laziness. This problem could be easily solved yet you guys come on here and tell us you don't have the physical memory to do it. That's pretty dumb.
