New jobs and their starting levels - please consider it!

So the rumors have started to fly about the new jobs - supposedly they will be unlocked around level 30, akin to present jobs, but then some are saying they will not start or be able to start at level 1 after that!

I am asking that this be thoroughly considered. Almost every game which has added a "start at a higher level" class has gone back on that decision. WoW did it once and has since abandoned that. LoTRO was going to do that with their Beorning but then had to push it back and redesign it due to player outcry.

There are many of us who take a new class as a new chance to re-experience a game.. from the start to the finish. Those who are already adept at the game can swiftly level a new job in no time flat - XP bonuses, fates, leves, etc., it doesn't take long if your goal is to do it as fast as possibly possible! For that reason I ask that you allow those of us who would prefer to take it slow and work their way back through many of the quests we had already experienced and re-immerse ourselves in the story to play the new jobs from first level and on, after they are unlocked. I have no issue with unlocking at all, quite the opposite! But I do want the chance to work my way through Eorzea again so that I can re-experience much of it, rather than being forced to skip partway through on a new class.

Just my opinion, in any case, as I have always loved the opportunity of a new class to bring a new start to a game I already love.

Yoshi-p confirmed that the new jobs will not start at 1, what level they will start at is debatable, but it is confirmed to not be 1.

I like helping people with their Job ideas, it's fun to help them visuallize and create the job they'd like to play most. Plus I make my own too, I'll post them eventually.

Y'know, what if they were just trolling and these guys start at level 2. Maybe they like watching us all try to figure out the level 'cause it's hilarious to them.

I doubt it was a troll move, it was confirmed at PAX, and the indication was that for the game itself, FFXIV, jobs don't start at 1, so the most likely option is 30, but we'll have to wait and see.

That statement was a rough translation, and the context of the question itself is being questioned in other threads on the forum. He may have been referring to the unlock for the class requiring a lvl 50.

The new zones are 50-60. If the unlock for these jobs are in the new zones, then we're already going to need a 50+ to access (That may have been what he was referring to when he said 'definitely not lvl1').

    I'd say it's still a toss up.

SE has never done a hero class before (or anything that'd bypass another grind), it doesn't seem to be part of their playbook, we'll see. 50/50
It wasn't confirmed that the new areas are all level 50-60, which would be bad. Each area has its share of low level to high level monsters. And since Coerthas is a level 30 area most of tne newer areas are probably 30-60. But didnt they have a similar design in 11, where you needed one basic job at 30 in order to access an advanced job. But until we hear otherwise everything is still up in the air.

My post was supposed to be taken as a joke. I for one would find it really amusing if it were the case, though.

The place to get the new classes will be in the expansion's area, which is only available after completing the main quests up until a point and that means getting a level 50.

So, yeah. You need at least 1 level 50 to get access to the new classes. I would see that it would encourage people to level and explore the classes, new areas. More things to look forward to once you get your main to 50.

I suspect that this may be true if a player doesn't roll a new Au Ra character and selecting the new class to start. Who knows, maybe the Au Ra have a new starting area entirely (would't be the first game to do it.)

FFXI AFAIK never added any new races to play, so that's a current unknown as to how SE will handle it. WoW can't be used as a reference point either because the game has a clear (PvP) race divide, where as FFXIV does not. The only game I've played that "added races" added new starting areas for that "home" area, which were not PvP neutral, but also gave human players the option of starting/rebirthing characters to the new area, allowing them to skip the main storyline and play the new content that wasn't dependant on the old storyline. However to be fair, the storyline had a lot of rough edges, so it was completely possible to play the race-centric storyline before they retconned it in a nerf'ing patch 2 years later.

So what I expect really from SE is that the players will get the option of "starting" the main scenario, or starting via an alternate scenario (and picking back up with the Grand Company storyline around level 15) by having the new area as a starting point as well if they pick Au Ra or pick any of the new classes/jobs at creation.

I like that they might start at 30, it would keep things consistent.

I am not eager to do 1-30 again.
