Back on topic... What the heck is PLEX? Ive been seeing that word pop up around the forums lately. When I googled it all that came up was some media server app.

It's just like any advertising, getting people to know a company name, do we get annoyed at most TV shows being interrupted by adverts? Do we get annoyed when we go to the cinema and watch half an hour of adverts? Do we get annoyed when a webpage is full of ads? What about smartphone apps? They show fullscreen ads every time you open them. We just accept it as the norm in a capitalist system where all people care about is the aquisition of wealth. It's just the same spam spam spam and hope people buy.

Hell yeah I get annoyed.
It's why I DVR and use adblock.
The very audacity people have to suggest I might use my money to trade for something they tell me about in tiny segments, often unrelated to what I was doing...sickening.

Funnily enough, the guy I know who bought gil was also complaining all the time about how empty he feels and lonely he is.

Basically the people buying gil hate life... isn't it ironic that if you don't work for anything you have, go meet people, make friends and achieve based on your own efforts that you would feel depressed and lonely?

I remember enjoying Skyrim for 2 full playthroughs and the 3rd playthrough I was dying to play again so why not... I decided to mix it up and use the console cheats... suffice to say the fun was sucked out of it and I pretty much just stopped within a few hours and didn't go back >_>

Plus people can pretty much know when someone has bought gil if they start bragging like I know someone who bought every ex primal clear and they are a FRESH level 50 with no crafts leveled either... like ok buy gil much? They can't even get an epeen boost cuz we know that they suck and fail at video games.

So why buy gil when there's ZERO satisfaction or pride in doing so? Why buy it when it just serves to depress your more than you already are? It's psychologically baffling to me.

yup, thats why Tivo/DVR and VOD are great. I also use ad blocker on youtube.

Yup thats why I don't show up super early and have to sit there watching ads. I paid for a movie.

Not everyone accepts it though. People find ads annoying, especially when they are thrown in your face like RMT, and your examples. Thats why there are tools to block them in some places.

Yeah ok. Think you misunderstand something. We as consumers are only accepting the advertisements we can't do anything about and we seek alternatives to things that annoy us. Do you ever wonder why online youtubing movie watching has rose in popularity? One of the reasons is because for a long time it was 100% commercial free and, in fact, it still feels a lot less intrusive (other reasons include variety of entertainment, convenience and what not). It is known in the advertisement world that there is a thing as going too far with intrusive advertising and companies are warned to be careful of such tactics as it can cause consumers to relate feelings of negativity and hatred towards their brands. Receiving a constant barrage of /tells that are seemingly endless every single time I log on FFXIV is an example of poor advertising as it makes us hate these groups and when we hate them, we will create a riot on the forums until SE is forced to exterminate them. But if they weren't irritating us like this, we may just accept they exist and get on with our lives.

I'm not playing FFXIV cuz I'm all CAPITALISM **** YEAH!!111 I want to get the hell away from all this crap I gotta deal with in my real life and the constant reminder of 'wealth and profiteering' is one of those things I really don't want to be constantly reminded about when I'm sitting in my MMO world.

(and that is only a very small miniscule spec of the morning commute). Only to return home by 6pm if I'm lucky along with all those other poor folks. I must be the only one going to work, all those others must be heading to the beach.

Yeah, it's pretty much Americans work for our entertainment so we don't want to work in our entertainment. We already worked. That's what paid for the game. Stop making us do more work.

However, there's only two things I get out of RMT spammers:
1. I hate them all. Like, SOOOOO much. I wish I could say and do things to them that would get me thrown in jail, but I don't want to go to jail. I don't even feel this way about any other advertisers except auto-playing flash movies with no mute or pause button and those ones that cover the webpage content and won't let you browse/see the page until you've closed it.
2. Dealing with RMT, even if you rrreeeaaaallllyyyy think you can get away with it, is like telling SE "Please ban my account in order to prevent me from continuing to have fun."

More and more people on Behemoth are making use of /busy. I know I loathe coming off of /busy for even 20 seconds. I've actually made my own LS for friends who aren't in my FC or other link shells, just so I can talk to them.

Vespar PLEX" are then able to be sold or bought in-game, allowing the seller to gain big stacks of ISK (eve currancy). It is in essence an indirect form of RMT.

wildstar did this, wow is starting to do this and its said to hurt RMT.
