Yes, I know they will add more sooner or later.

However part of me is worried. It seems it's very difficult for SE to add more plots. There are 1000s of players per server. Can they realistically provide 1000s of housing plots with the current system? Or will there always be people who can't have a house?

If they can't provide housing to everyone, maybe they should go back the an instanced housing system like in FFXI - but instead of just a room, give us an instanced plot. With luck we can do away with the zoning when entering the house and have a much higher item limit. Instanced house/plot is better than no house at all.

Convert the existing wards into "player controlled" town areas, where players can rent (via gil) a plot for their stores, FC guild halls, and what not - of course you have make the aforementioned stores and FC halls useful. Rent prices will be determined by auction so allocation of space will be via supply and demand.

PS:

About houses, I rather have pre-partitioned houses where each room has it's own "central light" than the current unpartitioned rooms with an immovable central light. It makes properly lighting your place nigh impossible - walls too close to the central light are blindingly bright, areas blocked off from the central light are near pitch black ... etc.

I support this idea. I've been saying they need to just instanced housing plots. Yoshi-P has said he did not want to do this tho. Saying it would take away from the FC housing areas. Or make people never use them again. But..I think at some point they will be forced to do it this way.

Why can't we get apartments luxury complex condominium style where you buy an area with multiple room - so one instanced apartments can hold 50-100 players and can co-exist with the current FC housing + other housing. All you do is click enter and it takes you to another zone, outside the apartments complex there will be stables etc (and inside the complex, places for crafting, vendors etc). You should be able to garden inside the room (similar to FFXI), and later they could add the "island vacation plot" similar to what they did with FFXI Adoulin.

Ya, I rather everyone have the opportunity to acquire a piece of landed property with or without an FC.

Whether it's an apartment in a building or landed property, it probably doesn't really make a difference to the servers.

The server primarily has to store the items (and their location) in the housing area, tables, chairs, plants ... etc. What the housing area actually looks like, be it a room or a wide open field, probably doesn't impact the server much if at all.

Same reason why the wardrobe isn't getting more room. It just wasn't foreseen for whatever reason.

But it's one of the big problems that seriously needs to be addressed.

has a lot to do with the servers being too old (I think I heard once that they're hand-me-downs from FFXI. Unconfirmed, though.) and the amount of effort required to replace them is something akin to "astronomical" or "herculean." Remember there's over 60 of the suckers.
A lot about FFXIV wasn't foreseen...the change from 1.0->2.0 is evidence of that. Poor guys got saddled with the leftovers.

Agree with instanced plots, however they should have strived for instanced "zone"/player like Rift has. SE thinks far too small when it comes to giving and too big when it comes to charging players for something.

The housing wards are already pretty dead so his reasoning is flawed. A FC could meet inside their instanced zone as easily as they do now in their instanced house. The fact that you may see 1 other person at a MB there is so......minor to the overall design interest.

Rifts design (total design) would have added a huge huge boost to housing and its longevity, its creative side, as well as pleased anyone who has even 1 creative bone in their body. They really missed the mark with housing compared to the depth it could have been.

I would rather a zone to design to my taste...literally... then having a home to drop items into, with the ability to see a zone full of houses and void of any ppl anyway!

The FC rooms are supposed to be like the rooms everyone can have.. if your FC has a house XD
