This has been discussed many times before, the suggestions have been made by many in various topics, but given the recent heavy volume of RMT /tells, maybe it's time to renew the suggestions.
When commenting, please try to comment positively rather than turning this topic into another RMT complaint topic. Hopefully a constructive topic offering suggestions regarding solutions rather than complaints, will illicit a more detailed response by the Community Managers/Devs.
Suggestion 1: When adding another player to our blacklist, the blacklist entry should be account wide, rather than character specific. I think this is particularly needed for players who experience harassment (of any kind) by others, and use the blacklist to avoid verbal harassment by /tell messages. If you blacklist a player's avatar, they are free to continue their harassment of you by switching to an alter.
Additionally, when blacklisting the senders of RMT messages, an account wide ban would raise one more barrier against the annoying. An account wide blacklist would slow down RMT efforts because it would prevent the RMT from simply switching to a new character or alt on the same account and continuing to spam people who blacklisted one of their earlier characters.
Suggestion 2: Add a "Report as Spam" option to the pop up list when you right click a player name ion the chat log window. Further more, add a configuration option to allow the use of that function to add the named player's account to your blacklist automatically.
I know this has been mentioned so very many times, but with the heavy volume of RMT tell-spam, it needs to be mentioned again. It takes a couple of minutes at least to report an RMT tell spammer. Last night I blacklisted about half a dozen names and ignored many more than that in a 2-3 hour period. Had I reported each and every one of them, I could have spent at least 30 minutes of my time reporting RMT instead of playing. That's one of the reasons people have resorted to using "/busy" instead, it's easier.
The automatic blacklist element to this suggestion should be toggled on/off in the configuration, and the automated report should fill in the date/time, location (in Eorzea), the name of the player reporting the spam, and the name of the player sending the spam. This automated report as spam message can contain any number of data fields that would be helpful to the task force trying to deal with RMT.
Well, that's my 2 cents worth of retread... Any other ideas out there?
