Start what? Reality? I'm a software developer. I've heard the "well, why don't you just..." or "well it's pretty simple" and other such statements all the time. It's a very real part of the job that I deal with all the time. People have no idea how much work or effort goes into "simple" software requests. Especially one like is requested here which is an entire inter-server chat system. This is in no way, shape, or form a simple request.

You're hardly the only one. We don't need another ten-page thread of rival developers throwing out completely meaningless numbers and architectures as the main point of the OP goes ignored. Going back on topic, I would like to see the Lodestone upgraded, and if it's supposed to be the FFXIV social network, a lot of social networks have their own chat clients now. Probably not the main focus of their development at this time, but who cares? I like the idea.

I've seen this in other games.
It usually gets dropped due to either the company no longer wishing to maintain it, partially because of what Tiggy is pointing out, or it gets neglected because cellphones, facebook, voice chat programs, etc. are easier and more reliable.
And indeed, this is NOT a simple request, especially since in the end it would have only one or two real, practical uses that can be filled so easily by a third party program it's simply not worth the time and effort.

Yeah my bad, I know it's not simple. I'm just being humble and maybe it went into wrong way, my apologies for that.

I used to play WoW and RIFT before, both of it have their mobile app guild chat and I can chat with my guildmates even I'm away from my computer. I need to travel sometimes because of my job and forum is not the best way to communicate to my FC mates.

When I'm not online, I still can have a conversation with my friends.
Some kind of messenger that SE can use, let say I'm offline then my friend want my assistance so they ping to my messenger like a other messenger, Whats App, Lime etc.

I really wish they would implement some kind of messaging system through the Eorzea Libra app so that you could access your friends list and /tell or FC chat. I would like that a lot because I don't always want to fork over my personal information to people I meet online. But I would be down for them hitting me up through the apps messaging/chat feature.

Woah people it's not a bad request to ask yoshi-p said he want to release a phone app that allow to talk to your friends/fc ingame. He said this before ARR release and we still don't have it i hope at some point we do.

It's called Skype, or Guildwork, or whatever other thousands of online messaging programs you can use for free.
