I saw no mention of Beast Tribe Quests, guildhests, or the Challenge Log.

-Beast Quests: Once you unlock a tribe or two or three (there 5 total atm), you get 6 daily allowances for these quests and they give you exp, gil, and ventures to level up your retainers with. The final story involving the existing tribes is worth the grind.

-Guildhests: People will disagree with me on this, but completing a guildhest for the first time on a particular class/job will give you experience points. Completing a prerequisite number of these will also give you bonus exp from the Challenge Log. Speaking of....

-Challenge Log: Unlock this In Limsa Upper Decks @ the adventurers guild and you will get access to objectives that reward bonus exp and gil. The main draw here is that the objectives reset weekly so they can be completed again and that = even more exp/gil.

And due to the Archer thing, i'm half tempted to just switch to summoner.

Summoner is a completely different playstyle from BLM (mostly) and ALSO gets access to Quelling strikes. Which they don't REALLY need buuuut...
Honestly you don't technically need quelling strikes at this time. Take your time, get some decent gear first. Most tanks you'll run into will be able to out-aggro you with a sneeze til you start getting Ironworks/Demon gear.
At that time, get some friends and just dungeon/fate grind the ARC to 34 to get the skill, then you don't have to look at it again. You can do this in an afternoon if have full EXP bonus, food, and the FC buff.
Honestly BLM was a very good choice as a first 50, since Swiftcast is extremely valuable for WHM, SCH, and SMN
