Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together Autographed By "Akihiko Yoshida Tarot Card Sweepstakes Winner

Tell that to the new players, thanks. Gil is an issue for new players, especially there are body, pants, belt, gloves, boots, hat, 4 x ring, 2 x bracelet, 1 x choker, 2 x earring, 1 x main hand, 1 x throwing and potential 1 x offhand / ammo.
For instance, as a new player in FFXI I find it hard to believe the cheapest price for lvl 10 knuckle = entire gil I've made from grinding my MNK to lvl 14...

Oh Bayohne, you card. Someone needs to proofread their posts a third time! You know how volatile things can be on this forum =P

I know on Besaid that crafters are beginning to go out of their way to sell lower ranked gear at a fair price. Myself being one of them.
Throwing such a high price on low level gear only serves as detrimental to a player's willingness to stay with the game. This is something that the community can fix, and easily too. There's no way in hell, that it should ever cost 150k for a Sheepskin Harness. Those who have been selling at a fair price also have noticed a very quick return. I was shocked when a friend from my LS recounted his story:
*Wayne's World flashback effect*
<Friend>How much should I sell this Sheepskin Harness for? Someone is selling it for 150k?
<Rhomagus Asclepiot> 150k!? That guy's never going to sell it. Besides, what the hell is he doing selling Sheepskin Harnesses? There's no market for that anyways. Everyone is at or near the cap and they're all wearing NM gear.
<Friend> So what's a fair price?
<Rhomagus Asclepiot> Well, considering new players would be utilizing it, check out the gil rewards for the early R10-R20 camps and make it somewhere around 4-5 leves worth I guess. You might want to take into account crystal prices as well, but in general, for gear that low, the person is probably getting their income from leves.
<Friend> Okay, so 10k?
<Rhomagus Asclepiot> Sure, probably not going to sell it but that sounds fine with me?
.... 1 hour later
<Friend> Holy shit all of my Sheepskin Harnesses sold!
<Rhomagus Asclepiot> ????
<Friend> I put up 6 Harnesses and they're all gone. Sweet!
<Rhomagus Asclepiot> What the fu.....
Needless to say I was humbled, no doubt.
With the changes being made players are beginning to come back. Some of which played during CE release and quit out of frustration (understandably so). Word's also getting out that the game is beginning to shape up. There is certainly going to be a huge influx of PS3 players when it releases for the console and I can't think of any other better way to tell them to go somewhere else than by setting ridiculous lower ranked gear prices.
Here's a story from Traveling Jake and his woes of the market pricing:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KZID_wJuS9w
He then goes on to find some friends who were willing to craft it for him. Ya, he had, "A million gil Mikey!" but even a millionaire's not as dimwitted to buy from such a conniving crafter. Falsely reinforces basshattery.Originally Posted by Jake Roon
I also agree with Arcell. Just include an in-depth tutorial on how equipping optimal gear works and adjust the stat boosts accordingly and you effectively have the best of both worlds.

No one is selling low level gear at the moment likely due to the fact it's such a pain in the ass to create. While I love that people are selling things like sheepskin harnesses for cheap, not many other crafters are.
And so in the long run you get rank 20 gear selling for over 50k. If anyone is selling at all.
I wouldn't say gil is easy to get right now, at least not as a new player. Not for everyone at least, particularly not those who don't understand that this game is not like other MMO's. I had to explain to a new player that materials were provided in the DoH leves. He thought he had to provide them himself.
Check out that Dev post on the update of new gear, you'll notice lower level gear will become a lot easier to manufacture. If at that point you're still hurting...
Put it this way, it's an MMO, at some point to progress you WILL need to speak to someone. I only hope in the future our retainers will have more slots to sell things so I can put up more than 10? of the same item to sell to low level DoW/M. But if at any point in time during the game you can't find something, but are willing to pay for it in the end, just shout for it with the reward.
Honestly it's not a hassle. There's no way we can read your mind for what you want, or know when we've sold out unless we check every half hour.
Some of this is on the end of the player desiring the item too. If you're unwilling to shout for something, then please be patient. There's just no other way than that, or to level up the class itself. Crafters won't all bite, and if you can't come up with a compromise on price (Trading shards to offset the cost of the item, or provide a few of your own materials) then move on.
tl;dr: If it's not up in the markets post 1.19 you may as well shout for it. It's an MMO, you'll have to speak to someone eventually.

Personally speaking, I don't bother making low rank gear mainly because:
- I have no idea what will be in demand
- I only have 10 slots on my retainer that stays in the market wards ... so if I fill her up with things that don't sell, I'm kind of stuck
- overall it's just not worth the trouble in terms of SP and gil
However, I often talk to new players and usually say that if they ever need something, to just let me know. We have a lot of crafters in our LS and many of them are the same way.
When asked, we'll usually make items for free.
But asking is the key. ^^
Many of us don't put very much up for sale in the markets
Ahhh....
Thanks for the clarification, but I'm a little disheartened to see that the optimal rank system is going to stay. I hope there are some serious adjustments to the system at least to help clarify what happens when someone pops on those blade-dancers Jackboots on his Rank 1 archer.
The gear should be FAR INFERIOR to what is available at that level but as it stands the way stats work they are almost inconsecential choices.

I agree, i strongly dislike the optimal rank system, much more rewarding to feel you earned wearing something by working for it, like AF gear, each piece needed some extra effort to be able to wear it, when leveled high enough to wear it all, felt great and a nice accomplishment indeed. This system further kills the incentive of ranking up besides the other incentive killers in the game like mundane and redundant abilities.
SE needs to focus on incentive, progressive and goal oriented gameplay, this optimal rank system just like Armoury system is just way too free and loose that it kills any real sense of joy. Just really lame seeing any class rank 1 being able equip any class rank 50 gear. Put some restrictions for the love of Final Fantasy..
I vote make all gear rank required and less generic gear, more class/job based.

Grind grind grind to level up and wear gear is not sophisticated/accomplished at all. Try Anarchy Online system, you can wear most equipment/use most nanos any time, provide you meet the requirement (and if you don't meet the requirement but somehow still got it on beforehand, it won't be unequipped). Lvl restricted vs AO system is like comparing WoW to EVE.

Hmm, so what are you proposing exactly? I'm not familiar with Anarchy online but even in your example of AO, you say you can wear most gear/equip provided you meet requirements. That is precisely what i am talking about, in FFXIV, there are no requirements for wearing gear (save the new stuff coming through). Level based requirement is a logical and common used approach. How exactly is it not accomplished when the primary general focus of the game is ranking up? Is it not accomplished when you have to rank up to earn an ability? how is this any different? Personally i can't think of many other ways to restrict gear besides level and job based requirements, what other requirements do you speak of?
Enlighten me otherwise![]()
