I'm in the same boat as Lienn. The Dev's response just has me sighing a great deal as this is rather disappointing news to say the least.
At least now I can opt out of carrying on nude while I rank up lower leveled classes, or opt to wear a new set of armour one rank ahead of time so I don't have to stop ranking, go back to town, buy it, then go back out again. Adjusting the repair system has done nothing for my inventory, and if anything, has made matters much worse.
I hate to think about going back to XI's way of doing things in terms of RESTRICTED ARMOUR. How very droll, heavily instanced content, a dying open world, and restrictions up the wazoo. Pretty sure if I'd known going into this game it'd turn out like this, I wouldn't have wasted the money.

For one, I can say, I did not see this coming. ): Perhaps for craftable gear to remain the way it is, and for future 'raid' gear to be restricted maybe I did, and would have welcomed it to be honest. But not this.

i don't see to much of a issue with rank restrictions, i kinda think it's a good idea. there are other way they could have gone sure. but every time a player equpits a piece of gear much higher then their acutal rank a baby moogle dies :'(.

It would may have been better to offer no benifits for gear +3 ranks or more then maybe 33% for +2, 66% for +1 but i don't think this will save all them baby moogles. however it would save me a lot of hasstle if i just want to do a quick class change for a quick repair. Yosh has mentioned though savable equipment sets (or somthing similar) will be added so i don't see this being a issue for long.

i do have to agree with every one who said the need to carry extra gear is gonna suck that is true, but looking at the gear i carry now i could drop a few sets if they reviewed what classes ware the optimal class for each set. maybe toss in a few more generic DoL/H/W&M so ppl who only want to switch briefly to a diffrent class for a leve or w/e can have a set of ok ish armour that will suit all classes of that type. and tbh imo there is no reason for your main class(s) to be using gear way above their optimal rank, but that is just my opinion.

This really would have been a fine change if they had already come up with a way to remove gear from our inventories. But they have openly admitted they have no idea how to do that and it is going to be a long while before it is implemented.

If this is the way they want to go they seriously need to consider pushing this change back until they figure out how to get gear out of our inventory.

:/ Damn SE and I didn't think something about the changes to XIV would ever anger me more then the Classes Locked to Jobs crap.

    I'm.. I'm

I really am not sure how I should respond to this. :/ I really loved this game when it first came out. And I really loved a lot of the systems and had awesome ideas on how to EXPAND the systems not restrict them.

But The last few recent changes all sound Restrictive not Progressive :/

    I'm... I think I'm physically sick :/

I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.

I wouldn't post this much on a subject or repeat myself just as much, but I too am feeling a physical manifestation of pure HATRED. ; A; I JUST....MAN.
I mean first it was like...the whole conjurer thing which I'm getting used to, aside from the really shitty hate system. And then it was the repair system which hurt my inventory even more, and then the crafting system which I admit now that they've explained it ... doesn't sound too bad?
But now this? ontop of insta-airships? And chocobos that take damage?

Man, this last month...idk if I can handle much more of this 'in progress' stage.

Personally, I'll play the game either way.

The main reason I'm disappointed in this change is that they're taking a unique system and making it generic and boring. It's a lazy, "easy way out" fix. If they can give me one truly good reason as to why they couldn't have tweaked optimal instead, I'll concede that point. However the main opposition of the optimal system only wanted it because they felt threatened by R1's wearing their "hard earned" gear. It made them not feel very special, and they apparently did not like that.

Changes could have been made to the optimal system that would have created a truly unique system that greatly benefited this MMO. Harsher penalties, clarification and ease of viewing/showing penalties and greater benefits from gear at optimal or higher would have sufficed. This would essentially create the same effect except it is not forced on us, it is simply highly suggested.

Apparently some people don't know how to deal with a lack of rigid structure in every single system. They apparently cannot think for themselves and would rather have restrictions forced upon them as opposed to having to think for themselves. Optimal gives you a choice and you can make good or bad decisions based on that information. Class/rank restricted gear gives you no choice, only a single option that cannot be "wrong".

Overall I'm very happy to see this. I can understand why some are opposed to it though.

The way I see it, it'll force us to use multiple different sets of gear on our way up to rank 50. With each new set of gear we equip, we can turn the old into materia and enhance it, if you choose to do so.

This also prevents exploitation of the spiritbond system (ie: cap spiritbond on multiple high rank pieces as you progress), assuming that higher rank equipment will yield materia superior to that of lower rank equipment.

With how fast you can rank and with how many classes there are. Changing it to restricted rank only is going to hinder people more. Because they'll have to stop, go buy new gear when they hit a new rank, or keep tons of gear on them. Its just... This is a horrible idea.

If this is the way the games moving, I wouldn't be surprised if they drop the "Change your class anywhere" feature next.

That's what makes this a conundrum lol. They're making leveling faster, but making it harder to stay up to date on gear, why? lol

I'd prefer to keep the "required" rank on gear, slow down the leveling curve (it's far too fast already) and focus on the journey instead of the destination of capped rank.

I think it's more likely we'll see people running around in weathered gear into their 20's, then keeping that gear until nearly 40, and maybe buying a final set after that.
