You shouldn't need to carry around gear for all your classes at once, and they are simplifying crafting so that you will need to horde less mats if you're the type that hold onto them. Not sure what else you would need to keep on yourself/retainers.

Even if you're only carrying around gear for two classes, if those classes aren't exactly the same level then it's "lol two full sets of gear in your inventory".
They'd better increase inventory size on both yourself and retainers by a lot, because people are gonna need the space very shortly. Common boxes would also be a good idea, or at least a way to reach your retainer's storage without actually being in town. Otherwise with this new system people will run out of space hauling all the armor sets around.

The point of the Class changing system in this game was so that you didnt have to run back to town every time you wanted to do something else. But even that is irrelevant because
Head
Chest
Waste
Legs
Hands
Feet
Ring x 4
Earring x 2
Neck
Wrist x 2
Ammo
Ranged
Pack
Main hand
Off hand
= up to 20 peices of gear per class
x 18 classes
= 360 peices of armour
+ Job specific armour
= potentially 360 more pieces of armour
100 Inventory slots
200 retainer slots
= 300 slots
300 < 360-720
That's funny because certain classes wear the same gear. I maybe use 15 slots max for all my gear. That's every weapon and body pieces. With that all tools crafting gears and still have 30 inv left over so I don't know what some of you are doing. I only have crafting mats with me if I'm crafting otherwise why bring them?

Are all of your classes the same rank or do use optimal rank gear? That's funny because certain classes wear the same gear. I maybe use 15 slots max for all my gear. I personally use Five sets of gear. Light Melee, Heavy Melee, Mage, Crafter, and Gatherer. This would not be possible if all my gear had rank requirement and or class requirements and my classes weren't all the same rank.

I thought the current recipes were going to hang around until 1.20 then be phased out? So now in 1.19 we are going to the simplified recipes only? Is there any way you confirm this Bay? ^.^
That and that current optimal rank gear will exist in the economy alongside required rank gear of the same name? Won't this pose issues for the market ward if someone wants the optimal rank version? It just seems like it would be easier to change all the current gear to match the new gear style.

Your first notion was correct Arximiro, we are having the old and new recipes side-by-side this coming patch, and the old recipes will be phased out after that.
I do wonder if they will turn all the current gear into Required Rank versions after that point, too.

I still dont see the point of phasing out the current gear, may as well just leave them. Especially if you're just going to readd it again as they'll need to be gear anyway, all seems confusing.
I use one set of gear because market wards and the current crafting system make it more trouble than it's worth to obtain proper gear.
I don't know about old gear becoming 'rare collectibles' since I can't imagine they'll be just throwing away all of the models for it. Since there will be other gear sharing the look, would it be collectible just because it says 'optimal' instead of 'required'?
I guess if you really want to waste your inventory space on treating old gear like beanie babies, there's nothing stopping you.
