Newish ARR player

Hello everyone, I played ARR back in April or May of last year but I did not really get into the gameplay so I stopped playing (a waste of the free 30 day trial) but I have decided to give this game another go. I am thinking about playing a tank class but I do not know if I will have a hard time adjusting from the mouse/keyboard to a PS3 controller.

Hopefully I will stay a lot longer then before because the game is very nice to look at.

Do I really need to avoid a lot of the side quests, in case I play another class in that same area?

Do the side quests. You can get a lot of free gear for your class, you'll get a lot of EXP, and you'll need that EXP most on your first class. When levelling up alternate classes you've got plenty of other options that will be more profitable due to EXP bonuses from being a lower level class.

Leves are infinite. That said, you only get so many Levequest Allowances per day (Though you can hold up to 99 of them if you're not using them).

They don't need to be avoided but they're nice to have for your other classes. They're a nice source of gil while leveling.

I found them unnecessary for the most part while leveling but I would use them to top up when needed to progress to the next Main Scenario Quest. As far as gear they provide, the MSQ will offer you the same for your main class.

Playing as Tank in itself has a deep learning curve, there's a lot to be aware of in the dungeon. Targeting with a ps3 controller has its own challenges, but some do better than others with that, I suppose.
