    Hit 50, really confused...

I've read the guides of "new to 50, patch x.x" and got nowhere because I dont know half of what they are talking about and it being so late in the game it's almost regretful to have bothered. Here's where I am lost and maybe someone can explain it to me that would be great!.

I seen that I should grind some soldier tomes , which I am but only on the daily duty run, as its too low to do anything else. As for hunts, I assume I could go do them but I need to be a high rank to even get the quest. Not sure how to rank up effectively, I've been spending all my credits on ranking up, but I'm a long ways off from logging the hunt quest. Can you even do the hunt mobs without the quest, will it reward anything worthwhile? I tried to kill one and couldn't as a WHM.

I can't heal any hard modes with my gear. I don't know anyone on the game so I'm at a loss as to what to do. Is it even worth getting gear with a expansion coming or just focus on classes?

Just do the basic lv50 stuff that is first available to you to start getting tomestones currency such as Main Scenario roulette, and continue the path of the main scenario quests given by Minfilia. Take up the quest A Relic Reborn in North Shroud for your weapon. Keep working on GC quests till you hit maximum rank with them. As your gear level increases you can start going to higher dungeons. The crystal tower raids unlocked at the camp on the east side of Mor Dhona offer great gear to help you jump up in gear level.

You may not be able to heal HMs but you can probably heal normal 50 dungeons (lost city, amdapor keep, pharos, etc) they'll give you some good starting gear. All those have ilvl60 gear.

Also I know you said you've read guides of new to 50 but this one is really good and gives you a step by step http://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/commen...to_i105_in_25/

When you start to get your relic, you'll have to do HM trials which you can totally heal with your gear (I looked at it). Those drop some nice ilvl60 weapons.
It's up in the air now if the relic is worth it anymore, but you'll need to do those trails eventually anyways so why not.

A big thing to point out is that you can actually unlock and fight ifrit hard mode and get bonus soldiers from the New players, going through there. This will allow you to get some I110 gear to start to become relevant in higher dungeons. Also make sure you pick up your a relic reborn quest as your weapon is arguably your most important piece of gear.

You'll need to get gear with the expansion coming - you need to get to at least item level 90 in order to complete the 2.5 postgame story events. And those story events will be necessary to complete to move into the expansion areas. Do your class quests if you haven't already to get some half decent gear, maybe look on the market board to get some accessories close to level 50 as well. Start your Relic Reborn quest and do it.

With that said, you're better equipped than you probably realise. Some HM primals might be a bit tricky, but if you're willing to adapt you can probably do fairly well - and even if you can't, they're 8 person fights and not at all hard for another experienced healer to solo heal. There's also the introductory level 50 dungeons. The big thing to note is that the first time you clear level 50 content, you'll recieve a new player bonus (as will everyone else with you) which will give a significant chunk of soldiery. It won't take long to save up for one or two pieces to significantly amplify your power.

If you want to do it quick, the Labyrinth of the Ancients is the fastest way to gear up. It's a questline that starts in St. Coinach's Find, and will be a bit long (There's some FATEs you have to hunt down and then other running around), but while a 24 man dungeon might sound intimidating, it's actually fairly easy. It rewards a base 100 Soldiery (+ more for any runs with new players like your first), and drops i80 body pieces that will help massively. And just when that starts being useless, you'll be able to go into Syrcus Tower for i100 gear and soldiery upgrade items... and then World of Darkness for i120s and poetic upgraders!

The first question I'd ask you is have you finished the main scenario quests? There will be two 8 man instances at the very end of the 2.0 quest chain and the bulk of endgame content is locked behind that. That should be your first target.

If you've completed that you'll have a few options. The Main Scenario Roulette can net you up to 240 sols daily and will give you at least 140. You also will have close to enough gear to look at the lower level end game dungeons. Most dungeons are unlocked by quest givers around the world. Basically any time your in a zone, open your map and see if there are any lvl 50 quests. If there are it is probably a quest that unlocks something. In particular youll find the start of a lot of unlocks in the Waking Sands and in Revanent's Toll and most of the rest are in the cities.

Doing the Main Scenario is the key thing to unlocks. The story progresses all the way through to the latest content. It will also generally take you to where you will find the additional unlocking quest. To even enter Ishgard in 3.0 you need to have that story up to date. Its one of the core parts of FF14 content.

I would also suggest finding a Free Company. Its a good source of help and opens up other things like Personal Quarters and in 3.0, Free Company crafting.

when i hit 50 i followed the main questline for a bit to get my relic. that unlocked chimera. super duper easy. it takes about 10 minutes to do and with the new guy bonus, gets 100 or 110 soldiery tomes. it's part of the relic questline so you usually get the bonus. in 1 weekend as a dps i managed to get enough soldiery to completely outfit myself in i100 gear, running around 4 an hour. while i was doing that i was running fates doing my atma grind. basically 1 weekend to have reasonable weapon and gear. then i started doing all these new available dungeons and i realized that having reasonable gear doesn't mean you don't suck. tam tara hard is also a very easy dungeon, once you know how to do it, that drops i80 gear, soldiery and poetic tomes.

I am following this content.. so far OK, because I'm also like you just hit lvl 50 last week and still under progress to gear up and to finish all the requirement. I'm still not unlock my RDEX yet.

Ask your friends to help you do the relic quest.

As for hunt, I still not unlock that yet. I just go for S class and A class monster.

S Rank hunts: There's no GC or level requirement, and no limitation on how often you can do them except that they only rarely appear (and with special triggering conditions). It will take a lot of people (several full parties) to take these mobs down. You'll want to be in a party.

A Rank hunts: Similar to S Rank, but more common to find and not as hard. There's no GC or level requirement, and no limitation on how often you can do them. It will take at least a full party (but you'll usually have more than that). You'll want to be in a party.

B Rank (weekly) hunts: These have to be unlocked by reaching max rank in your Grand Company. Once per week, you'll get a mark bill specifying a specific B-ranked mob to kill. With high iLevel gear, these can be soloed, but with new 50 gear, you'll probably need a partner to duo them with. (The B ranks respawn as soon as they're killed, so they're always available. It's just a matter of finding them.)

Daily hunts: These have to be unlocked by reaching max rank in your Grand Company. Once per day, you'll get a few mark bills specifying specific FATE mobs to kill. Soloable.

Most people who try to get tomes from hunting are getting together in parties and going after A Rank (and when available S Rank) mobs. The Daily/Weekly ones that you need GC rank for don't reward as much individually, plus they have the daily or weekly limitation, so while they provide a nice little occasional boost once you unlock them, they aren't as good of a Tome/Seal source as the A and S ranks.

    Firstly, welcome to end-game!

You get tomes from every run you do, so you don't have to worry about grinding them too much. But do try to get your Poetics capped weekly, as it does have a weekly cap (resets every Tuesday). You can get some Poetics and Soldiery from doing Low Level Roulette, so I recommend doing that daily. You can also unlock Main Scenario at a fairly low ilevel (i50-60ish, I think) and that also gives good tomes when run through its roulette.

Keep following the main story even though you're level capped. It unlocks quite a few things. If you haven't already, unlock the 24-man raids, the Crystal Tower. The first one (Labyrinth of the Ancients) you can go in at a very low ilevel (again, also i60ish) and it drops i80 gear and does not have a weekly loot lock out, so you can farm it. It also gives a fair bit of Soldiery (especially if someone is new!).

I'm not quite sure what you mean by hunts. I thought you meant the Hunting Log (you get a ring for completing it so I recommend that). But I think you mean the hunts where people spam the /shout chat with "Looking for groups"? Those hunts don't really give good gear, exactly. They do have vanity gear that looks nice and they used to be farmed for items that upgraded i100 and i120 Sol/Poe gear, but the items used to upgrade those now come from the 24-man raids. So they don't really offer much, I honestly don't bother to hunts myself.

As for you being worried about being too low of an ilevel to do runs. Most of the Hard Mode dungeons are sync'd to i110 so you can easily run them in i90 and not have issues. Just be sure to tell the party that you are new and ask the tank if he could pull small if you're unsure about your heals. Of course, you can access some easier ones at a lower ilevel (Amdapor Keep, Wanderers Palace, ect), but if you want to work for a specific ilevel first, i90-i100 is what you should aim for.

As for the expansion, you don't need to worry too much. If you want to try out other classes, feel free to do so. I can't tell you what the dungeons in the new expansion will be like, but the tradition for the Expert dungeons has been to drop gear that was originally the same ilevel as the tomes (loose example; we got Poetics (i120 armor), Sol (i100 armor) became easier to get with no weekly tome cap, and Myth (i90 armor) dropped from dungeons, which you needed to be i80 to enter). So by following that, the cap for the first few Heavensward dungeons will be about i100 (i120 max, but I doubt they'd go that high for the very first new stuff).

I hope this information was helpful!
