If you are looking at just a small group of people to friend and chat, you can always message me and my small group and by small I mean you would be the 4th person. We are all super laid back, casual, and generally try to be good people. I have been looking around for bigger groups to be friendly with ours, and if you don't feel like hanging about at least we might be able to point you in a direction. Over the past few days I have met some good players in the community by reaching out. And just to be clear, I mean small group, you would be our 4th person. Just enough to do dungeons...lol.

It kind of boils down to how social you are. Waiting around for people to talk to you probably wont make you many friends, join random stuff. There's a community there, just its stashed away. A lot of people don't talk in say chat because it clutters up other people's log windows or they're just shy. One of the two, anyways we're on the same server if you want to run stuff or chat let me know in game

FCs are absolutely where the community is at, in my experience at least. You said you had a bad time joining one once because people didn't play with you. I lead an FC myself and would like to offer an alternative perspective on this. We've had multiple people leave our FC over its lifetime for the same reason - because they were too shy to speak up and get involved, and so they felt neglected and ignored. I think there's a single-player gamer mentality that a game is supposed to tailor itself to them, but when you are dealing with MMOs that is never going to be the case. If you don't actively immerse yourself in a community (FC, LS, or server) you will be neglected and ignored because people will have no idea who you are. MMOs are social games. If you make an effort to make serious connections with other people, that is far more valuable than clearing any content or winning any gear. But if you are expecting people to just give you what you want without asking and without first befriending them then you are going to have a bad time.

I agree with Gorezilla1 that you should check out Log Horizon, they're a very active bunch and if you put the time into getting to know them I'm sure you'll find the community you are seeking. PACT! has also expressed interest in taking you on in this very thread - maybe take them up on their offer. You have nothing to lose.
