alexandrite questions ( very new at this part)

ok so i just started getting alexandrite a few days ago and i know you can do they daliy quest for 1 map and you can buy maps for 400 tombs.
i know you can do hunts and get get maps for seals and you can farm fates as well..but heres my question...
1) how offten do they drop from fates?
2) is it just alexandrite that drop from fates or is it the maps?
3) what would you say is the best way to get alexandrite aside from hunts? (im on a PS3 so hunts are out of the question)

1) RNG, so its random for everyone. Since Alexandrite was allowed to drop from Fates all i got was one(!) in the whole time - thats like 9 month i think now... Others get more lucky and get multiple in one hour, but even when clearing southern thanalan for the S mob i havent got any, even tho they "increased" the drop rate :/
2) The alexandrite drops directly, you get the animation onscreen like you'd have gotten an atma - the dsching and stuff
3) If you can't hunt... Daily map and soldier maps. Hunts are sadly the quickest way to get alex - if you hunt one weekend you can easily make 30-40 if enough S mobs are up :/

FATEs are actually a good source of Alexandrites. It's about ~10% chance of dropping per completion last I've heard. I've seen a lot of people farming for them at Middle La Noscea. Though, I can't guarantee success - RNG is RNG. However, it depends on how many FATEs you actually complete - whether you were actively taking down FATE after FATE as soon as they pop up, or remain idle in one spot and staring at your screen with the occasional FATE completion.

So yeah, juggling with the daily map and purchasable maps while FATE farming would be your best bet since you can't hunt. You can get one Alexandrite per two weeks if you only do the weekly bill, and maybe a week or so if you also include the daily bills!

I don't think there is a 'best' place per say. Take a look on the PF to see if anyone has any FATE parties up and tag along with them. The more people - the faster you complete the fates; and more chances of rolling the die for an alexandrite drop. Else, you can farm the lower levelled FATEs such as in Central Shroud and Middle La Noscea with your chocobo out. I recommend also doing the daily map quest and using any excess soldiery tomes you get from the roulettes/dungeons for the purchasable maps to speed up the process.

There's usually a fate train running in North Thanalan for exp. If you need exp on your chocobo this would be a good place to hang out. The rates aren't terrible unless RNG is hating. My last 3-4 hour session got me 8 pieces.

I'd say Northern Thanalan would be best if you wanna multitask and earn Alexandrite, GC seals, and Chocobo exp (spiritbonding is also something you can do while you do this). If you'd rather just grind fates super fast for Alexandrite and ignore the rest for now, pick an area like Central Thanalan or Middle La Noscea with lots of tiny low level fates. Those things get destroyed super fast, especially if other people are in the area.

Western Thanalan is where I ground out the majority of my Alex. A ton of low level (see: quick to complete) FATEs in a mostly centralized area on a small map.
